Not my best work

I didn’t really feel too much like blogging tonight, but since I have become a regular on Sundays and Ford made two big steps in his life I decided I must sit down and entertain someone with my nonsense.

What are the two big things you ask? Well, for starters I have cheated and started him on vitamin D-whole milk. He hasn’t been given the thumbs up from the pediatrician that he can graduate to big boy milk, but I thought we would start easing our way into it. I bought some on Monday and poured just a little in a bottle. He spit it out. I decided we would try it again in a little while and this time I would warm it up like I always do with his bottles. He left it in his mouth this time for a few seconds and spit it out again. I consulted my mommy mentor, my sister in-law, Sugar and Spice Mommy, and she told me to mix it. So the next day we tried it again. I put half whole milk and half of his other milk. It worked like a charm. So we are smooth sailing on transitioning into regular milk and I must say I am a bit thrilled about it.

And the next milestone we crossed in the life of Ford Lamar is…. A BIG BOY car seat!!!!! My mom, Gran, has been saying for months that he would love facing forwards so that he can see what is going on. I think he likes facing forwards, but the fact that he can see us and we aren’t holding him might be a bit of an issue. We haven’t ridden more than 4 or 5 minutes at a time in his new seat so I am not sure how he will be on longer trips. But if you are going anywhere in Senatobia it won’t be longer than 4 or 5 minutes. This is Mayberry remember!!!

We had breakfast Sunday today and Lynn (The Savage Family) asked me for my recipe. I have actually posted this one before but here it is again…

CARAMEL FRENCH TOAST

1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar
¾ cup butter
6 tablespoons light corn syrup
10 (1 ¼ inch French bread slices)
4 eggs beaten
2 ½ cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
¼ cup butter melted

In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, ¾ cup butter and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 5 minutes or until bubbly. Pour syrup evenly into a lightly greased 13x9 inch baking dish. Place bread slices over syrup. Combine eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt. Stir well and our over bread. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours.

Preheat over to 350. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over soaked bread. Drizzle ¼ cup melted butter on top. Bake, uncovered, 45 to 50 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

Something is seriously strange with this site tonight.  The pictures will not upload correctly.  I have no idea how this is going to look.

The Bunny Stopped At Our House

So we started off our Easter break with a new Good Friday tradition compliments of my husband. Friday, we had the first annual Lamar/Alford family crawfish boil. I, myself, do not eat crawfish. They are categorized in the swimming family, so I stuck with the potatoes, (or taters as Trey called them) corn, and sausage. At about 10:30 I was all partied out and hit the hay and I think the function continued on for several more hours...until the 60 pounds of crawfish was gone.

One of my good friends from college is getting married this summer. Several of us former DDD’s hosted her a bridal shower in Oxford on Saturday. It was fun getting together with college friends.

After the bridal shower I met Trey and Ford and we headed to Cleveland to James Still’s first birthday party. Thank goodness Puddin and Pops gave Ford a DVD player for the car for Christmas or the ride could have been a little rocky. The ride home wasn’t as pleasant as we had hoped because no afternoon nap and being stuck in a car seat for over an hour lead to a small melt down. But we survived through it all.

Easter is such an important time of year. I hope everyone was able to go to church this morning and celebrate as we at the Lamar household did.

Our little family

I could HARDLY wait for Ford to wake up from his nap so we could go outside and hunt Easter eggs. I had been practicing most of the week with Ford about what an egg was. I think he was a little confused with eggs and balls. They do seem to be similar, especially to such a small tike as Ford. He picked up one egg and decided to eat it and lost interest in the hunt. Regardless it was a fun afternoon.

He loves snack time

Do you know Henry Johnson?

Do you know Henry Johnson? The members of my immediate family know who Henry Johnson is. And you do too; you just don’t know it yet. There are Henrys in every city, state, and country. Growing up in the Anthony household was… unique to say it best. My Dad, Boompa, has his own “special language.” Poor Trey has never grasped the Anthony family language and to this day will still ask me what certain stuff means. Some people have said we have our own language and we sort of do. My former students at school even could tell you that I often times said off the wall things or had my own language in the classroom. You get my drift here… we are talking about a special language. Back to Henry now. Henry Johnson is that slow person driving in the car who is in front of you. You know the kind that is going under the speed limit, sight seeing, braking at unnecessary times, and just plain in the WAY!!! It seems like lately I have gotten behind so many Henry Johnsons (slow people) that it about makes me crazy. And as you can tell from most of my posts, Senatobia is a small town and most of the roads here are 2 lanes and there is no way around these Henry drivers. So the next time you get behind a slow poke think about me and call them “Henry Johnson.”

I saw this bumper sticker the other day and thought it was worth sharing...

So last Monday I left school early to go to the doctor. I felt a little bit like I could be dying and self diagnosed myself with strep throat but later found out it was pharingitis. They must be in the same family. I came home and tried to rest and then realized it was time to go get Ford. Low and behold that little stinker got sick on Tuesday so we were both out of commission and missing work and the sitter most of the week. Now it’s Sunday and I still don’t feel good. There is so much pressure in my head from my sinuses that it has gone down into my teeth. Has anyone ever had a tooth to ache from sinus issues? Please say you have! Trey hasn’t and he doesn’t believe me!

Here are some pictures of our week at home…

Ford went to his first birthday party on Saturday. Here he is playing with someone else's toys. His nose is red from me wiping it all day long.

Ford playing in Uncle Vance's hat

I am constantly talking to Ford and trying to teach him about his surroundings. Since he can’t talk back I don’t know what he understands and what he doesn’t. Today I put him to the test. I was holding him in my lap at lunch and I asked him where Daddy, Puddin, Pop, and Uncle Vance were. He looked at each one when I called out their names. Then tonight I showed Ford a cup, train, pacifier, and cell phone. I put all the objects down and asked him to go get each one individually and he went to the right thing every time. I was so proud of my little man! He is a sponge and soaks up everything we teach him.

I hope everyone will have a great week. Watch out for Henry!!!!!
