Blast from the Past

My favorite time of year is here. Yes, its summer, but that is not what I am talking about. I am referring to the end of school….meaning I don’t have to get up at 5:30 and go to teach the future leaders of tomorrow until August 5. I love my job more than I can explain. There is NOTHING in this world that would bring me more pleasure than being an educator, but by May we are all worn out and ready for some R & R.

I am slightly bummed to announce that my camera is broken. Somehow after the trip to the lake last weekend the button for the camera got switched to video and broke and I can’t get it back. I took my camera to our tech guy at school and I am hoping he can fix it. So, I don’t have any good pictures to share with you today.

Since I don’t have any recent pictures of my little man we will look at some my friend, Jamie, took of Ford when he was 4 weeks old. That would be exactly 1 year ago…

Ford amazes us everyday. He is so smart and understands a lot of what we say to him.

Some Ford facts…

• He can say: Momma, Dadda, Daddy, Delta, (our dog) Bo, (Puddin and Pops dog) ball, bubbles, Bobby, (Trey’s uncle) dog, Bible, book, juice, baby, and I am sure some I am leaving out.  We are also working on animal noises.  He is good at the dog and cow.  We are practicing really hard on the cat and duck too.

• He loves to be outside more than anything. We gave him a Radio Flyer Coupe for his birthday, Puddin and Pops gave him a wagon, and Bobba (Trey’s grandmother) gave him a bubble lawn mower. When we go outside he must have all 3 of them out of the storage room before he can begin to play properly.

• He loves the water hose as you have seen from previous pictures. He has been known to play in it for 30 plus minutes at a time.

• He is fascinated with Puddin and Pops swimming pool. This can also be scary since I am sure he would walk straight into the water without hesitation.

• He won’t eat fruit or noodles. I think it’s the texture that really throws him off.

• If he likes a particular thing I am feeding him he will point at it and say “Ugh” meaning he wants more.

• He would much rather play with the home phone, remote, pots/pans, Tupperware, or a cord than any of his toys. Speaking of… I am requesting no toys for Christmas.

• He does not like to be rocked. After his bottle is gone he wants nothing more than to lie peacefully in his bed with a minimum of 5 pacifiers (pacies).

• He is showing an interest in books this week. There is one in particular that is his favorite. It has a picture and 1 word per page. He must have a short attention span!!

Some more pictures of Ford from a year ago…

Those pictures just really made me sad. I almost have a hard time remembering Ford being that small. He has grown up way too fast! I am about to go in his room and look at him right now. Everyone have a great holiday weekend.

I'm Back

Yes, I have been M.I.A. (missing in action) lately but I am back in full force now. I have had several requests for some updates and I thought I better blog before I get some hate mail.

We have been really busy around the Lamar household. Two weeks ago Trey and I made the 9 hour trip to Fitzgerald, Georgia so he could be in his 13th, YES; you read that correctly… his thirteenth wedding. Here in Senatobia we have squirrels that run freely and in Fitzgerald they have roosters. It was the wildest thing I have ever seen. The wedding was beautiful and we had a much needed get away.

We had another busy weekend last weekend with a dinner party in Oxford on Friday, my cousin’s wedding on Saturday, and a trip to the lake on Sunday.

PICKWICK

Just hanging out around the house….

Gran and BoomPa gave Ford this water mat for his birthday. It was a big hit at first until he slipped down and was shot from every angle with water!!!

Tomorrow is my last day of school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think teachers look forward to this more than the students do. I am going back to my old job next year. I have loved being a high school special education teacher, but my true calling is with the younger ones. I am really excited about this too. I have already started decorating my new room and even put up my August calendar today. That “Type A” personality was coming out strong this afternoon!

Comparing and Contrasting

I had a nice Mother’s Day last weekend. Being a mother now for a year really makes me appreciate my mother and other mothers much more. Being a mother is the hardest, yet most rewarding job a woman can have. I have a precious little boy that brings me joy each and every day. I also have a mother who has given me unconditional love and support all of my life. So thank you mom for being the best mother I could ever ask for and thank you Ford for letting me be your mother.

Comparing and Contrasting is a third grade skill that I teach. I like to explain this objective to my children and then give them some visual aids to help their little brains soak up the idea. Today you and I are going to compare and contrast.

As I have discussed before, Trey and I bought an older house in town that was built in either the late 30’s or early 40’s (I can’t remember). Some dear friends of ours in town bought our current house and completely did a HUGE face lift inside and out. I never had the privilege of seeing our house before the big flip and nearly bugged the lady to death for some pictures. Well, she brought them last weekend and I couldn’t believe the transformation. I am glad that the task wasn’t something that Trey and I had to undertake because one of us might be dead, but they really did a good job. We will only compare and contrast the outside of the house today. We may compare and contrast the inside on another post after I do some cleaning.

Now Trey and I can take credit for all the landscaping, the fence, and the addition to the storage room outside, but nothing to the inside. I am pretty sure the inside is much more drastic of a change than the outside. Maybe next time we can take a look inside and see. Until then…

Growing Up

My little man is growing up! Gran and I took him to the doctor yesterday for his 12 month check up and shots. I really wasn’t looking forward to the shots part and I knew Ford didn’t have a clue as to what was going on. They weighed and measured him and his stats are:

Weight: 21 pounds; 25% percentile
Height: 29.25 in.; 30% percentile
Head circumference: 47 cm; 75% percentile

I am pleased to say that he is full of brains! I am sure some of you are thinking that weight statistic can’t be right with all the big bathing suit belly shots you have seen, but he really is a little man!

They pricked his finger to check his iron level and you have NEVER seen a little finger prick bleed so much. The nurse was concerned with the amount of blood and said he could be running a fever. He was okay… just a good bleeder I guess. She put a band-aid on his finger which he did not appreciate. He worked for about 2 minutes before he got it off.

We waited for a good long while before the nurse finally came in with his shots. I made the executive decision that he would not get the M.M.R. shot just yet. I have lots of personal reasons to wait on it so we opted for the Varivax (chicken pox) vaccine and 2 other shots that he had already gotten; this was just the fourth round of those. Lets just the say the shots weren’t his favorite part of the day or mine. I had to hold him down while the nurse gave him the shots and it broke his little heart, as did mine. It upsets me as much as it does Ford. After a few kisses he was okay!!!

FORD FACTS:

• He wears a size 3 diapers
• He drinks whole milk now
• He says: momma, dada or da-die, Delta, and bye bye
• He sleeps from 7:00 P.M. until 6:30 A.M.
• He wears a size 12 months in clothes
• He eats oatmeal mixed with fruit for breakfast
• He eats a fruit and vegetable baby food for lunch
• And he eats big people food for supper
• He loves the remote control, telephone, and water hose
• He sits in a front facing car seat
• He recently learned to hold his own sippie cup
• He understands most commands I give him
