Is it greener???

I often hear of people choosing to bow out of their marriage because they think the grass is greener on the other side. No, I do not think the grass is green on the other side. I am actually extremely happy with my life. I often times think how fortunate I am to be 28 years old and have all that I do. Today, however, I decided that the grass “might” be greener on another side of a profession!

Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching. I have wanted to be a teacher since I started school and really can’t imagine myself doing anything else. There are challenging days and today was one. We have been taking practice tests this week for the BIG achievement test we take in May called the MCT2. It is a test based on the curriculum we have to teach all year and we have NO clue what it looks like. But we must get these little ones ready for it. We in no way can help them at all on the test. I can’t speak to them. Even though we are “practicing” this week I played like it was the real deal. I told them when they finished they could either put their head down on their desk or read a book. Some people don’t follow the rules and one child did this……

A few minutes later I went to collect their tests and realized one of my students was missing. Yes, he was not in his desk. I knew he hadn’t left my room. Where was he you ask? Look back at the picture. You see the tables covered with green fabric? He had crawled under the tables to take a nap!!!!! I almost lost my mind. He and I tangoed a little bit later as well and he slammed my door and clenched his fists at me. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my, I was not happy. Needless to say, the punching bag came in handy today while I worked out.

 Looking out the window
They are complete.  I still need stuff to put on the right side.

Last night I started cooking supper and Ford said… “Up there.”  “Ford sit on cabinet.”  I picked him up and he said, “What’s that?”  I told him it was an onion and he wanted some.  Why not….

He decided it wasn't too tasty

Ford LOVES a pacifier also known as a pappy around here.  I love them too.

Ruth, Ford and Lucy.  These are the sweet girls of my trainer, Liz.

Ford LOVES Lucy whom he called Alfie for the longest time. She is the BEST babysitter around.

Ford often gets confused as to how he should refer to himself.  If he wants me to hold him he says “I need me.”  Tonight he was crying “Momma bathe you.”  He obviously says things that way because we say them to him that way.  Someone, and I am not sure who, but I have some suspicions, has been saying stuff to Ford which he will repeat.  I want to know who has been telling Ford to say that “Momma have another baby.”  Trey claims it’s not him and I certainly didn’t tell him to say such.  So who is to blame????  And NO, I am not pregnant!

COMPLETE

After my last post Ford and I both got sick. I wasn’t properly diagnosed so I can’t exactly say what I had or still have and the little guy has another double ear infection. I took a half a day on Thursday and took myself to the doctor and then took Ford. It’s a never ending battle at our house, being sick that is.

We had a lovely weekend. Well, lovely in my eyes. We had no plans and got to stay at home. I even took a short, 20 minute nap on Saturday. I never get to take a nap. I honestly believe that we have plans every single weekend through the end of summer. I may end up in the hospital. I am a woman who requires some sleep and I need rest. Trey on the other hand would be perfectly content if we were only at our house long enough to sleep and on the go every other second.

Today is day 45 and the last of the home renovations are COMPLETE! Now my challenge is decorating those new cabinets and shelves we had put in. I will post a picture next time.

Ford Facts…

He says “I need me” about 500 times a day. That means he needs for me to hold him.

He can spell his name.

He knows when his birthday is and how old he is going to be.

He knows where he lives and the town BoomPa and Gran live in.

Ford knows my first name, Trey’s, Puddin’s, and Pop’s.

He can count to ten.

He recognizes the colors green, blue, red, white, pink, yellow, and black.

We started working on left, right, and straight. Those are still a little hard for him.

Every night he wants me to “hum momma”. I hum “Silent Night”.

Or he might ask me to sing “Baby Jesus” and that means to sing “Jesus Loves Me.”

He is very independent and constantly says “Ford do it”.

He wants to know who everyone is. He asks “Who’s that?” a lot… and loves to say it really loud in public (like Wal-Mart) and embarrass me.

He wears size 18 and 24 months clothes. And size 5.5 to 6 shoes

He prefers salty over sweet, but would take a Sweet Tart any day of the week.

He is a bellybutton finder. He loves to find a belly button.

We started learning our ABC’s tonight. He found the song to be very entertaining.

He loves to take a bath and color with his bathtub markers.

Tractors are still the way to his heart….

Not holding my breath

My cool factor has increased.  It’s hard to imagine, but it has.  I finally got my bike... and it has a baby seat for my man, Ford!  No, it’s not Mother’s Day or my birthday, but I did have some extra Christmas money left over and I decided to put it to good use.  I went with a Schwinn.

Trey and Ford eating Sunday morning breakfast on the back steps.

I love a tradition.  When Trey and I moved to Senatobia four years ago I told his mom that I thought we should eat Sunday lunch at their house every Sunday after church.  Smart move, huh?  Being the loving mother- in-law that she is, she agreed and we have eaten out there every Sunday since.  Ford enjoys himself on Sundays as well.  Last Sunday he stole my corn on the cob.

After his nap on Sunday we took him to ride a “big tractor.”  He had a ball.

The weather has been wonderful lately.  This afternoon Ford and I spent about 3 hours outside.  We started off with bubbles.

He has yet to grasp the concept of blowing the bubbles.  Rather, he licks the bubble stick.  Nothing like a little soap in the mouth!

And ohhhh no, his hands got dirty. He is NOT a fan of dirty hands.

He had enough of the bubbles and needed in the back yard with Delta.  He quickly found the water hose so I turned it on for him.

 Washing his hair

Today is day 40 of our home renovation.  You would think after 40 days that one measly room would be complete.  They can build an entire house in a week on Extreme Home Make-Over and I can’t get one room done.  We decided to go ahead and get some built in cabinets done which has slowed the process down.  The guys said it might be done this Friday.  I won’t hold my breath.
I am really looking forward to this weekend.  I don’t think we have ANY plans.  This will be the only weekend for about 5 months that we have free.  I am thinking a zoo trip might be in store….

Park City, Utah

I worry.  I worry a lot.  I worry even more now that I have a child.  And when Puddin and Pops started talking about a ski trip back in the fall my worrying went into overload.  Why, you ask?  Well, it involved Ford.  He is not a relaxed and laid back kind of child (I wonder where he gets that from???????).  I had all kinds of visions of what could happen on the flight out there.
 Preparing for take off

 Walking with Pops

The day finally came, last Saturday, to get on the plane and head to Utah.  We had been talking up the airplane trip to Ford for weeks.  He was super excited about it and off we went.  On the ride from Memphis to Minneapolis, (yes, that is not the way to Utah but that is the flight we were on) Ford kicked the tray table in front of us, stood up in my lap and announced to the entire plane that he saw my belly button, open and closed the window shades, and yelled half way across the plane for Puddin and Pops.  We got off in Minneapolis and literally sprinted across the airport to get on our connecting flight headed to Salt Lake City, Utah.  I decided to juice the little man up on Benadryl.  Ha!!!  Like that worked.  He refused to sleep.  On this flight he leaned over the seat, annoyed the people behind us, spilt his milk in my lap and just flat out did not sit still period.  We made it to Utah in one piece!

Trey and I went skiing back in March of 2007 and that was my first experience.  After that trip I didn’t have a high regard for skiing.  I have decided the people who really love it have gone many times of grew up skiing.  I went into the whole deal of getting suited up with a positive attitude.  I actually did so much better than I thought I would!

I do not look very skillful there!

 YAY!!!!!!!
Ford needed to check out what was happening on the slopes

One of my former principals told all of the teachers that we really needed to make sure we documented everything we did at school.  I always remembered that.  I think that taking pictures is an excellent form of documentation so when Puddin fell down I grabbed my camera!

I may be banned from the family for this, but my absolute FAVORITE part of the trip was watching Johnny T. Lamar (aka Pops) trying to ski.  If I had any sense at all I would have gotten my video camera.  I was in tears.  His skiing career lasted about 32 seconds and he quit.  Let’s just say he needs some private lessons.  I love you, Pops!

On Tuesday some of our group went snow mobiling. I was excited about this because we could take Ford. I felt guilty leaving him in the room all week while we skied (he was too small).

I love my Mississippi and can’t imagine myself living anywhere else, but Utah was absolutely gorgeous.  I am so glad I was able to experience all its beauty.

On Wednesday we shuttled over to the Canyons to ski.  For anyone who keeps up with the Winter Olympics, we skied in the same places where they had them a few years back.

Trey is a much better skier than I could ever dream of being.  Sometimes overconfidence will make you stumble.  And that he did…. Right into a tree!

I felt Arabian

While skiing at the Canyons the Lord was really on Trey Lamar’s side.  He tricked me into going down a blue (which is MUCH harder than runs I like to ski).  I was squealing and thinking nasty thoughts the entire way down each of the mountains we went on, but lucky for him I never fell.  And let me toot toot my horn and say I only fell ONCE the entire trip and it was simply because I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going!

I skied down that mountain. Please notice how small the people look coming down it.

 The town of Park City
Trey, Ford, and I left on Thursday to come home.  We made it here in one piece and the little man actually slept some on the plane this time.  We had such a fun time and made lots of wonderful memories.  We are so thankful to have this experience with Ford.  Thanks for a fabulous trip, Puddin and Pops!!!!!!

And we came home to a new hair cut and 80 degree weather.
And no, our house isn’t finished yet. I will save that for another post.

February recap

Axton and Griff both played on Ford's BPA travel team last year and this year that came to our school!!! "Momma, take my picture!&q...
