Getting off the grid

Life can be hard and exhausting on parents of small kids.  It's seems like Trey and I have had a small child for ten years now!!!!!!  We have!  Along with parenting comes work, adult responsibilities, and the legislature.  Since Trey just completed his 8th year in the House, we decided we should take an adult trip and get off the grid.

Leaving the babies means gifts everyday.  Day 1... Gift cards to WhipperSnaps (indoor trampoline place).  Day 2- Boys- can of tennis balls and bath fizzies and Annie- some chapsticks and bath fizzies.  Day 3- everyone got a muscle shirt.  Day 4- The boys got word search books, high-lighters, and beach balls.  Annie got a coloring book, crayons, and a beach ball.  Day 5- Kit Kats and BIG Sweettarts.
Since I drive a Suburban and Trey drives a truck, both gas guzzlers, we rented a small SUV for our "Off the Grid" trip to North Carolina.
We rolled out at 6:00 AM on Friday morning headed to Asheville.
The first stop was The Biltmore for a tour.

So glad to see that blue and white was popular back in the 1900's since I put lots in my house last month!!!
I'm hard to handle most days, but on this day I pleasantly surprised Trey.  He was very proud of how interested I was in The Biltmore.
After the tour came the wine tasting.
His cousin, Anna Beth, gave us tickets for the tour and joined us for the wine tasting.
We stayed in Asheville at Grove Park.
 I highly recommend it!
THIS POSE.... is sooooooooooooo my mom!  I promise I have memories of pictures that were taken on trips that she and my dad went on where she stood like this.  I am turning into her!!!
We left Asheville and headed to Highlands, NC.
We traveled along the Blueridge Parkway which took you through the mountains.
Fancy, of course, wanted to stop at every possible site to capture the moment.
I was annoyed.  This was some fancy car he insisted I pose in front of.
He thought I needed to be by these special purple flowers that grow up there.
Pisgah Inn....stopped along the way!  He said this sign was made for me!
So we stopped another time.  When we got out of the car Trey went to throw some trash away.  A lady immediately approached me and asked if I wanted her to take our picture.  I told her that would be great.  After talking with them for 30 minutes, we learned her husband was also a state rep in NC, and we loved them.  More on them later........
Trey drove over 20 miles out of the way to see a waterfall.
I look Pentecostal.  I put on my tennis shoes, I hate tennis shoes, for the 1 mile hike to the waterfall.
We finally got to Highlands, NC, after FOUR HOURS!!!!!!!!  I was basically car sick from the mountainous ride and a little cranky.  Nick, the bell hop at Old Edwards Inn, asked me if I wanted some champagne as soon as I got out of the car.  I knew that was a place I wanted to be.

In our room....
The resort was so nice, quiet, and peaceful.
 Our cottage
The first night we had Italian
Trey played golf the next day.  I met him on hole #10.
I have wanted a ring with a lot of little diamonds for years now.  Trey and I went in 5-6 different jewelry stores and he bought me one for an early 14th anniversary gift.
I'm hoping it helps camouflage my wrinkly hands.
Where I got my ring....
 This was nice!
 Dinner at The Hummingbird.
So back to those people we met on the Blueridge Parkway.  We discussed our plans for the week with them, even mentioning a nice restaurant we planned to eat at one night.  When we arrived at The Madison, we had the nicest table and a note on the table.
The note was form Kevin and Beth, they got us the best seat, and had champagne waiting on us!!!!!
Matt was our waiter that night.  He was very attentive.  We ate outside the restaurant the next night and he came to check on us!
That's an onion on top of Trey's food.
Our last day we woke up, ate breakfast, and went to hike a trail.
Most of the trail was shaded, however, I got a serious sunburn on my shoulders from being 5,000 feet up.
He was scared on this one!
We found another waterfall called Dry Falls.
 The last night....

 We went to the spa
 Our view the last night...
 The library
It was an awesome trip and I hope to go back!!!!!!!!!!!
