I have skills

I love having Trey home for a long weekend. Since Monday was Memorial Day his office was closed and I told him we needed to have “family fun day.” I use that term a lot around our house. Basically that means that he has to play with us and not do anything else. I sort of won, but not completely.

We sat around our house Monday morning and about 11:00 I told him I wanted something fun to eat for lunch. I specified that meant leaving Mayberry (we only have fast food). Trey suggested Oxford and I agreed even though it was technically nap time. Oxford was dead. We ended up eating at Old Venice (Trey is not a fan) and then went to get yogurt at Ya-Ya’s.

 Chocolate lips

Trey is probably the most meticulous person I know.  Everything he does has to be just so.  I, on the other hand, am not that way.  For instance, when we got married and bought our first house in Jackson he said we needed shelf paper in our kitchen cabinets.  I did not think we needed shelf paper for two reasons.  Reason number 1) my family did not have shelf paper and reason number 2) it seemed like tedious work.  He won, we did shelf paper.  His side was much neater and more precise than mine.  He is like that in all he does, even picking toppings for his yogurt.  I got double chocolate with oreo pieces and had one bite left when he sat down to eat his.

On the way to Oxford Trey wanted to drive back roads so Ford could see Sardis Lake (I really think he wanted to make me car sick). I am a creature of habit. I like to stay on the same/normal roads. We were in the middle of nowhere. We did find this little guy on our ride. I think he has a rough night.

Playing in the cabinets.  I am so glad we had these built.  We store all 1,000 of Ford’s toys in there.

I have no hobby.  I have no talent.  Or better yet, I do have a talent; it’s hidden and just hasn’t come out yet.  I decided since I am without a lot of skill I needed to learn how to sew.  This is something I have wanted to do for a while but time has always been an issue.  Since I have my summer free I decided it was time.  Puddin taught me how to sew on a button.  Trey sure is proud.  Now I can actually fix some of his stuff.  I will need to purchase the proper supplies first!

As I have stated before, I am sick of paying ridiculous prices for Ford’s clothes.  He is another outfit I had made.  $5.00 for fabric and $6.00 to make it = an $11.00 outfit!!!

As I said at the beginning of this post, I sort of won on the “family fun day”… well, Trey ended up playing golf late that afternoon.  That only meant that Ford and I needed to come ride a golf cart.

Today, I took my first sewing lesson!!!!!!  The lady talked over my head at first.  I stopped her and reminded her that I didn’t even own a needle or thread and then she slowed down a bit and let me watch her a little more.  I am a very visual learner.  I do not like reading a manual so I figured a one-on-one sewing lesson would be my best bet.  After my lesson Ford and I did some swimming red neck style in the backyard.

 Juice boxes make everything nicer

Ford played hard ALL day today. After his bath I dried his hair and brushed his teeth. Then he had a small melt down when he saw Trey eating pistachios. He loves those nuts. I told him he could have some if Daddy would brush his teeth again. It’s a chore brushing those teeth. He didn’t get any nuts!

AND, NOW,…………. My pillow case (it's for Ford) I sewed today!!!!!! It’s not perfect but I am pretty proud. All that measuring and cutting made me a nervous wreck. The actual sewing part wasn’t that bad. Next week I am going back to make pajama pants!!!

A sweet conversation

This has been such a fun week.  Ford and I didn’t do anything spectacular; we just did a lot of playing.

I wanted to take Ford’s picture and he wouldn’t cooperate.  I told him to say cheese and then we would go ride his tractor.  You can tell he is saying “cheese!”

It was nap time.  Can you tell?

A friend let us borrow their “All About John Deere Tractors” DVD and Ford can’t seem to get enough of it.  We have watched it approximately ten times and I am certain I can memorize parts of it.  This is how I found him watching it on Wednesday.

On Thursday we had a play date with our buddy, Cooper.

Having a popsicle
 Pretending to ride the 4-wheeler

After our play date I told Trey that we needed to work with Ford on his throwing skills. Lucky for us Uncle Ken, Aunt Ashley, Molly Cate, Caroline, and Baby Jack gave Ford a tee-ball set for his birthday. We had some batting and throwing practice in the yard after supper.

I can't even explain this one

BoomPa and Gran came down to eat with us at the Como Steak House on Friday night.  Trey loves food more than most people I know and he was excited when his 24 oz. steak came out.  It was huge!

Saturday night Ford had his first ice cream cone.  Yes, he has had ice cream, but it has been in a bowl or cup.  This was super messy, but he loved it.

 That was all Trey's doing.

 I love this child!
This morning after Ford woke up he was in need of some milk and a little rocking time. He said “Momma, just talk.” I asked him what he wanted to talk about and he said “Jesus.” I asked him where Jesus lived and he said “In Heaven, in the sky.” Then he said, “Go see Jesus.” I told him that if he loved Jesus with all his heart one day he could go see Jesus in Heaven. It was such a sweet “talk” we had. I am glad that Ford wants to learn about the Lord. I pray that it will continue for the rest of his life.

"Mother of the Year" nomination, again

I haven’t been as diligent at blogging as I would like to be. This school year has completely exhausted me and added a few more gray hairs to my head. I am pleased to say that tomorrow is my last day and then I will have a few weeks off!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The exclamation points are showing the excitement I feel for the year being over).

Trey and Ford having a popsicle Thursday night.
I did not join in on the popsicle party. Instead, I had a Slim Fast. I am not ashamed to say that some of my clothes have gotten a bit snug so I decided I had better take matters into my own hands and out of my mouth!!! So far, so good… I have been able to tell some small results and I only started this fun on Thursday.

I have been put up for Mother of the Year several times.  I have yet another nomination for this………

I was making a cake for school (not fun when you are dieting) and I turned around to find Ford eating biscuits out of the trash.  And people ask me if I plan to have anymore children… I can’t control one!

We had Gran, BoomPa, Uncle Ken, Aunt Ashley, Molly Cate, Caroline, and Jack down for supper on Friday night.  I told Ashley to pack the girls’ bathing suits and we could blow up the pool the Easter Bunny brought to Ford.
 I was near death

 Ford has sharing issues.
He was not happy for anyone else to have his water hose.

Last night we went to an engagement party for some friends. Our summer is jam packed with weddings, birthday parties, family reunions, and trips.

There is nothing like some Sunday afternoon redneck fun.  Get a load of this outfit.  It has rained for 2 days so we had to dress properly to ride our tractor.
