Clarification….

Lauren just made my morning with her comment on my post last night.  I must clarify about my shower cap.  No, I don’t sleep in a shower cap.  I shower every night before I go to bed to get the school germs off and I wear one then.  Not to bed!!!!!!!  That made my day!!!!!

A nap mat

Friday was Trey’s 31st birthday and he got to eat his muffins on the special birthday plate.
One of my claims to fame is that I wear a shower cap every night.  Yes, I just admitted to all the people who read my blog that I own and wear a shower cap daily.  I brought one with me to college my freshman year and got made fun of and soon those people want to borrow my lovely head piece.  I still wear one each night and Ford has even caught on with the stylish trend!!!!!

On Saturday we went shopping to buy Ford accessories for the big boy bed we still didn’t have.  Trey decided to take the rural route home and we found this lovely sign….

School has 100% exhausted me.  On Saturday I took a nap (this never happens) and when I woke up I found this in my living room.  Yes, a big boy bed.

The transition has been pretty smooth.  I could be better, but it could be a lot worse.  He has only escaped once and requires his momma (me) to lie down with him for about 10 minutes each night.  He usually cries when I leave, but I hope this too will pass.
Thus far this school year has been quite nice.  I needed a “quite nice” change for sure.  However, I was sad on Tuesday when Trey and Puddin got to go to “Meet the Teacher” with Ford and I couldn’t go.  He will be going to preschool a few days a week and Tuesday was the day to get acquainted with everyone and bring your school supplies.  I insisted that Puddin document the occasion.

Carrying his nap mat which I will be SUPER surprised if he sleeps on.  This child is high maintenance.

He was unsure at this point

Tomorrow is DAY #1 of preschool and you better believe I will be in attendance for that.  I am anxious to see how the day goes…

Happy 31st

Happy 31st Birthday to my “favorite big boy.”  (I tell Ford that he is my favorite little boy, and Trey is my favorite big boy).  Tomorrow is actually Trey’s birthday, but I wanted to go ahead and wish him a happy day in advance.  Ford and I love you very much and are so proud of you and all your hard work!!!!!
I made Trey his favorite chocolate cake tonight.  Here’s the recipe:
Trey’s Birthday Cake
2 cups of all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 stick butter
½ cup shortening
4 tbs coco
1 cup water
½ cup buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp vanilla
Mix flour and sugar.  Combine butter, shortening, coco, and water in a pot on the stove.  Bring to a boil.  Pour into flour and sugar mixture.  Add baking soda and buttermilk to the mixture.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Pour into cake pan.  Bake at 400 for 25 minutes.  (I baked mine for 20.  Next time I may do 18 min.)
ICING
On stove bring 1 stick butter, 4 tbs coco, and 6 tbs regular milk (not buttermilk) to a boil.  Add 1 box powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla.  Add chopped pecans.  Stir and pour over cooled cake.

Facts about Ford:
Weight: 27ish pounds
Shoes Size: 6-7
Clothes: 24 months for now… 2T for fall
Diapers: size 4, but size 5 at night
Favorite foods: pistachios, steak, chips, French fires, green beans, cereal, shredded cheese, yogurt, apple sauce, nuts, pizza, etc.
Food he dislikes: fruit (I think it’s the texture), salad, and he would rather have salty over sweet.
TV: he is not a big fan.  He will pretty much only watch his tractor dvd.
Toys: He loves tractors, trains, coloring, playing Memory (we call it match), little match box cars
Other interests: He loves driving his tractor in the yard, pretending to drive my car (he knows how to crank it… scary), getting into my pots and pans, sweeping the floor, playing hide-n-seek, painting, and chasing Delta.
Nicknames: I call him Mr. Independent a lot because he wants to do everything himself.  He says “Me do it.”  And he will say “You not help me.”  I also call him Fordman or Fordster.  Trey calls him little Buddy.
Sleeping arrangements: He is still sleeping in his baby bed.  I did give him a pillow back in June!  We are going to transition into a big boy bed soon.  I still rock him for a little while and we say our prayers before we go to bed.
School: Ford starts 2-Day a week preschool at our church next week.
Ford knows: What town he lives in.  What street he lives on and sometimes can say our address.  He can count 1-10 and usually 1-15.  We are working on 1-20.  He can say “A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H, Y and Z.  He knows all colors and the shapes of a triangle, square, circle, and heart.  He can spell his name.  If we ask what his “other name” is he says Jefferson Hannaford Ford Lamar.  He adds that Ford in there!  He knows my name, Trey’s, Puddin, Pops, Gran, and BoomPa’s.
His memory:  Ford forgets nothing.  He has this crazy thing about cars.  He remembers what everyone drives and if he sees them around town he will tell me who drives what car.  If we leave town and go somewhere and he sees a car like someone’s he immediately tells me.  He is always right too!  I used to be weird and know all types of cars when I was little too.  Yesterday when I picked him up from his babysitter’s house I asked him how to get home.  He told me exactly which ways I should turn to get to our house.

Ford loves his swimming pool.  The other night I was watering the grass and he kept begging to go swimming.  I finally agreed and filled up his pool.  Ford is not a child who plays well alone.  He always needs someone near or he says “play toys momma.”  He worried me to death and finally and jumped in with my clothes on.  Trey was shocked and amazed!!!!!  Cool mom award!

Today was my first day of school.  God is good and answered my prayers.  I have 21 cute and sweet children.  I really think it’s going to be a great year and I am really excited about it!

Year #7 Here I come....

It is hard to believe as I sit here and write this that my summer break will be completely over when I wake up in the morning.  It has gone by so quickly and Ford and I have made lots of good memories together.
I am sad to go back and leave Ford, yet I am excited about a new school year.  I actually know a lot of the new third graders coming up and hopefully I will have some of them in my class.
I am sure some of you read into my blog posts last school year that it was a tough year for me.  It was.  I won’t lie.  A lot had to do with my attitude and some things were out of my control.  I have felt extremely convicted of that all summer and have prayed for a better attitude and school year.
I grew up thinking that all children came from a home like I did.  I was raised in a Christian home with two parents who loved and adored me on a daily basis.  Not all kids grow up that way.  Some children come to school hungry, tired, dirty, or with bruises on them.  Now I can’t control what goes on when they leave me each afternoon but I can ensure that I give them 100% each day and make them feel safe and happy when they are with me.  I can make a difference in a child’s life and would like to think I already have, but that I do not know.  Please pray for the teachers as they begin a new school year.  We really need your prayers on a daily basis.  The education system is not what it used to be.  Year #7 HERE I COME!!!!!!!!
We got a good rain last week and Ford needed to play outside in it and drink water from the gutters.

Friday we took a field trip to the Memphis Childrens Museum.  Gran, Aunt Ashley, Molly Cate, Caroline, and Jack came along for the trip.

Ford was driving his new Cadillac Escalade when he fell out the door and busted his lip.  It still looks pretty bad.

He thought it was pretty cool that he was on TV.

My sewing days are not over.  I won’t have near the time to sew anymore, but I plan to do some when I can.  I went and bought a pattern to make john johns and some new fabric.  I will keep you posted….

Friday night we had some friends down to eat with us in Como at the Steak House.
