Trying Hard to Get There

Since I "retired" from teaching, Trey thinks I'm his ride or die partner.   He has had my tail all over the USA this summer.   People keep asking, "How's retired life?"   I am like, "People, I don't know.   I haven't slowed down a bit!"
The Southern Legislative Conference was held in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, this year.   Fifteen southern states attended this conference and Trey signed us up.  I've never been to WV, nor did I know anything about the state or place we were staying.
We left on a Saturday morning, headed for the airport.   Trey dropped me and ALL of our luggage off at the door and went to park.   When he finally walked in the airport he said, "You're not gonna like this."   Well, of course I NEVER like a sentence that starts off that way!!!!   Our Delta flight had been canceled.  We sat down and tried to figure out Plan B.   I was looking up driving directions and he was checking other flights.
We opted to fly American and I am really glad I did after the internet crash the day before.   Many people were stranded for hours and days in the Atlanta airport which was our first stop on Delta.

We waited....

Finally we hopped on flight #1 headed from Memphis to Charlotte.

We flew from Charlotte to Roanoke and rented a car.   I waited with the "stuff" while Trey got the rental.

We were REAL happy to see this sign around midnight.

We finally arrived at the beautiful Greenbrier in WV.

It was literally like something I've never seen before.   So grand.   So big.   So colorful.

We finally got to bed after 1:00.   I can be a tad bit high maintenance and I needed some wash cloths before I could go to bed.   We had to wait on "the Frunk" to bring them up.   Sunday we explored the hotel and the 11,000 acre property.

Lunch

I was blown away with the beautiful landscaping everywhere.

Indoor pool

Sunday night was the welcome party.   I decided to wear yellow so Trey could find me amongst the large group of people.
Jimmy, Jansen, me, Trey, and Steve

Steve is the best.

I was glad Katie was there to keep me company.

Karl had to borrow a jacket to get into the casino.

His wife, Lynn, was so fun.

Monday night dinner

THIS place was my FAVORITE.   The one hour house band show.   They kept us wanting more.   Who plays for one hour???  Them!   I requested Tina Turner and boy did they deliver.  I helped them out a bit with the vocals.

He wanted to be in the band too.
Sometimes you get sleepy.

Shopping

Outdoor pool.
Trey wanted me to ride a horse.   I didn't want to ride a dang horse.   I had seen the activities The Greenbrier offered on their website and I wanted to ATV ride.

So we did.   We hooked up the blue tooth and jammed to some CCR.

I have never been so nasty.   It was sooooo fun.   I refused to drive on the trails because the guide was going way too fast and I wouldn't be able to keep up.

Jeremy is hilarious

Alabama had a party Tuesday night since they'll host SLC next year.

Daniel sang "Suspicious Minds" and nailed it!

I also get sleepy.

The farewell party that Trey was late to.

Goodbye Greenbrier
Getting home was a nightmare too.  We drove from White Sulphur Springs to Roanoke. Then we  flew to Charlotte and were stranded there with all of America for over 4 hours.   We got home at 1:00 AM.

Home and back to life....trying to burn our pile of sticks that wasn't cooperating.

Annie gave daddy, Mr. Jake and Mr. Scott a ride on the golf cart.

Bird and Annie playing school

The Hill family bought the house next door and I couldn't be more excited.   We helped rip wallpaper.
