My new buddy, Townes

I love people.  I especially love little people.  I have wanted to be a mother and a teacher for as long as I can remember.  People are interesting and we all have a different story to tell.  Some stories are happy while others are much more challenging.

I have a dear friend that I met in August of 2005, when I started my first teaching job in Jackson, MS, in the Jackson Public Schools.  We taught third grade right across the hall from one another for two years.  At this time neither one of us had children, but would constantly talk about our future plans.  Trey and I moved to Mayberry and she stayed in Jackson.  We have kept in contact over the years and God blessed her with two beautiful children of her own.  She has a sweet and sassy little 2.5 year old daughter, and this past November had a precious baby boy named Townes.

Townes joined his family and was deemed as the perfect baby.  He was laid back, slept great, and rarely cried.  However, he seemed congested from day 1.  This bothered his parents.  My friend, Lanier, called the pediatrician several times expressing her concerns and it was dismissed each time.  Two weeks ago she decided he HAD to see a doctor.  She took him in for "congestion" and before she knew it they were being sent to Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, MS.  After numerous tests were done it was found that baby Townes had an enlarged heart and a very rare disease.  Pompe Disease is so rare that only ONE other child in the state of Mississippi has it.  Lanier and Townes have been in the hospital for two weeks now waiting on test results to return.

Townes has a long road ahead of him.  He will require lots of TLC, trips to the hospital, expensive medicine, and possible surgeries to help him fight off this terrible disease.  Lanier has a friend who is making t-shirts to help raise money for this family, and 100% of the proceeds go into a fund for Townes.  This precious baby will be taking six hour treatments every two weeks with extremely expensive medicine.  Do I need any t-shirts???  Heavens NO!!!!  I have enough to dress all of Mayberry, but who could say no to such a sweet face.  If you are interested in supporting Townes you can order a shirt....
