Half a year old

Contrary to your popular belief, and mine for that matter, John Brantley is not a big baby.  Yes, we all think he is just sooo big and thick.  Actually, his cheeks are the only thing on him that is big.  We went to get his 6 month shots on Friday and he is smaller than Ford was at his age.  Let’s compare…

John Brantley
Ford
Weight: 16.1 lbs. – 25th percentile
Weight: 16.8 lbs. – 30th percentile
Height:  26 ¼ inches – 25th percentile
Height:  26 ½  inches – 50th percentile
Head circumference: 50th percentile
Head circumference: 75th percentile

So, as you can see, Ford was a bigger baby than John Brantley is.  He was such a happy little guy at the doctor’s office.  He crinkled the paper, squealed, kicked, helped the nurse, licked the doctor etc.  Then tragedy struck and stuck him 3 times in the legs and he went to yelling!  He was a trooper and his juice helped to calm him down.  I can’t stand shot days!  It breaks my heart.

Where is John Brantley???!!!???

Some John Brantley facts…

John Brantley was born on June 13.  He weighed 8.12 lbs. and has since gained 7.9 lbs.
He still can’t crawl.  He will get up in the crawling position, but can’t seem to get on his knees to start moving.  HOWEVER, you can move.  I like to refer to him and a bowling ball because he rolls all over the place.
He doesn’t have any teeth, but he drools and attempts to chew on anything he can reach.  He is like a vulture.  He attacks anything he can grab and will eat it.  He broke Puddin’s necklace yesterday.
He rarely wears shoes.  He can take his shoes and socks off faster than anything I have ever seen.  It’s almost a hopeless situation.  I can’t seem to find any socks that he can’t rip off.
He sleeps in footed pajamas.  I prefer the zipper kind, but we do have some that snap.  My little Houdini can figure out how to get his feet out of those too.
He gets upset when he’s hungry, tired, or if you put clothes on him.  He gets ticked when I have to get him dressed.  He especially hates for things to go over his head.

I have started giving him Puffs to snack on.  I tear them into about 6 pieces.  He loves them.  He has also had Cherrios torn into little pieces and has sucked on a lemon.  Other than that he has only had baby food.
He is somewhat of a thumb sucker.  He won’t have anything to do with a pacifier and quite frankly, I am glad.   Ford had one until he was over 3 years old.
He wears a size 3 diapers, Luvs.  He is in 6-9 month clothes.
He has beautiful blue eyes.  When he gets tired he rubs his eyes, nose, and ears.

A lot of his brown hair has fallen out.  It’s growing back blonde.
His nicknames from Ford and me include:  Toto, Buddy, Bitty, Big Stuff, Toots, and Little Dude
He has never been sick.  He has never spent the night away from me.  He has slept in his baby bed since he got home from the hospital.
We have been practicing sitting up.  He can stay there a few seconds and then he topples over.  He’s a little top heavy.
He loves Delta.  He watches her whenever she is in the room.  Fortunately, she is the most gentle dog that God ever created and allows John Brantley to grab handfuls of her hair without barking at him.
Ford and John Brantley are able to play a little bit now.  He is so happy when Ford gets down on the floor and loves on him.
John Brantley is spoiled.  He basically only has to squeak and I run and pick him up.  It’s hard to get stuff done around the house while I have him on my hip, but I love it.
He likes being outside.  He loves to drink water from my cup.  He smiles while he has a bath.  He will sleep in the car.
He is still breast fed and doesn’t like a bottle.
He doesn’t sleep through the night.  I think it’s more of a habit that he is waking up rather than him being hungry.
His schedule usually is as follows:
5:30 Wake up and eat
6:30 Oatmeal
8:00 Eat and nap
10:30 Eat… usually he doesn’t eat well at this feeding
1:00 Eat and nap
4:00 Eat… he doesn’t eat good at this feeding either
6:00 Rice cereal mixed with ½ a fruit and he eats ½ a vegetable
7:00 Eat and bedtime
