Weekends seem to pass so quickly around here and then it’s back to the regular work week. I haven’t blogged since we found out that Toto was a boy so I feel like I missed out on a few pictures here and there.

Last weekend Trey and I went to the DeSoto County Crystal Ball which had a Star Wars theme this year. I jokingly told Trey that he only takes me to stuff like that when I am pregnant. And yes, I have on the same black dress I wore to the Governor’s Inaugural Ball. I just can’t justify spending a lot of money on a cocktail dress I can only wear a few times. Plus it isn’t glamorous shopping for them while pregnant.

Last Sunday Ford was a little stir crazy so I decided a field trip would be necessary. We put on our play clothes and went to the playground at my school. He thought he was so big out there.

Yesterday was sweet Jack’s first birthday party. My sister in law is so creative and came up with a “snowman” party theme idea. It was delicious!

So why the title of my blog??... The “Word and the Fairy”. I don’t know why it has started, but it has. The word... WHY? Who knew one little 3 letter word could be so annoying? Oh but it is. He has always asked why a few times a day, but now we are upwards at 100-200 times a day. He asks a question, you answer it, and he says why. Eventually I say “because” or “because I said so.” I know this is how he learns, but one can only handle so much.

We had lunch yesterday and Ford decided to entertain us with his goofy faces. We both laughed and it only egged him on to keep up his performance.

And what about the fairy??... well, I decided that we might need to cut back on our pacifier use. Ford loves his paci or pappy. He has gotten bad about wanting one anytime we are home. He has easy access to them since they stay in his bed. Yesterday, I made a new rule. He can only have them in his bed when he is napping in the afternoon or sleeping at night. It wasn’t so smooth yesterday morning. Ford was on the couch screaming, “But momma, I’m not a big boy. I’m a baby!!” I stuck to my guns and we made it through the day. This morning I had to put his baby gate up so he couldn’t sneak in there to grab one. He loves those things. It’s going to be like taking crack away from a crack addict. I don’t want to be the bad guy and I know Trey doesn’t want to either. We have blamed poor cousin Baby Jack for taking his bottles and I don’t want Ford to hate Jack so I am not pinning this one on him too. I told Ford that soon the Pappy Fairy would come during the night and take them away and give them to a little boy or girl who needed them. I am not so sure he likes the idea of that, but I don’t think he knows what to do. I am not sure if he or I will have a harder time. I hate thinking of my baby growing up. I know I am about to have another baby and Ford needs to make some positive changes, but this growing up stuff if hard.

This morning we went back to Memphis for Molly Cate’s baptism. After church we went to eat at an Asian’s place called, Noodles. The cousin’s saying goodbye.

Toto is a BOY!!

The final results on the poll for the gender of Baby Lamar were 33 girl/5 boy. You five people were right on!!!! Last night when I was lying down with Ford it all of a sudden hit me that the baby in my belly wasn’t a girl like I had been thinking for 18 weeks, but a boy. I told Trey this morning on our drive to Memphis that I thought the baby was a boy. He wasn’t much into that conversation. He is more of the wait it out type and discuss later.

I had to drink 32 ounces of water an hour before the ultra sound. It was miserable. When I got to the office I asked if I could use the bathroom. I was denied. I sat in the waiting room completely uncomfortable and squirming around. Eventually, I high tailed it into the lobby and just had to go to the bathroom a bit. I was called back and the ultra sound tech started doing all the measurements of the baby. I was very uncomfortable. I was holding Trey’s hand, or better yet digging my fingernails into the palm of his hand. I hate an ultra sound. Most people love them. Not me. I have been lying in that chair before and gotten some bad news on Baby Lamar #1, so it makes me a nervous wreck. I thought I was going to cry due to nerves, excitement, and the fact that I desperately needed to go to the bathroom. Toto wasn’t cooperating fully so she tilted the chair back. Ohhhhhhh my bladder didn’t like that. She then said we could get the family. I asked if she was 100% sure she knew what the baby was. She said, "We can’t say for 100%, but yes I know."

The family came in and she said we would be having a boy. I was shocked because now it’s all so real. I wasn’t shocked she said boy. I might have fallen off the chair had she said girl though. YES, I am excited. I have been completely amazed with how many people have asked me if I am okay with having another boy. Of course I am. All I wanted was a healthy baby and that is what I have right now. I only thought I was having a girl since this pregnancy has been completely different than with Ford.

Ford is super excited about the baby in my belly. We are still trying to convince him that he is having a little brother. He told me tonight in the bath tub that he wanted the baby to be a girl. I told him God thinks he needs a baby brother. Then I explained all the cool things brothers could do together and he liked my ideas. I also bought some blue iced cookies for him to take and share at school with his friends tomorrow! That idea also sounded very good to him too.

We don’t have a name for Toto yet, but have some prospects in the works. And hopefully the men are coming this week to start building Toto’s room onto our house. Let the craziness begin!

Freaky Eyes

It’s not often that I toot my own horn, but I am about to toot toot real quick. Okay, for Christmas Puddin and Pops bought me a sewing machine. I was really excited about my gift, yet worried at the same time. I was excited because I really want to learn to sew, but worried because I don’t like to read directions/instructions. One of my sewing goals has been to make Ford some clothes. Puddin and I did just that. Now Puddin didn’t sew the pants, but she graciously assisted during the project. I am pleased to show you my first completed clothing project!!!!!!!!!.........

Last weekend we headed to eat some of Uncle Vance’s birthday cake on Sunday after Ford’s nap. We took two cars to Puddin and Pop’s house. I was following Trey and the next thing I know he has turned off into his old high school. I rolled the window down to inquire about the detour and he told me they needed to get out and play on the baseball field. Being that it’s January and all Trey didn’t think Ford needed a coat. I disagreed and made him wear one of mine I found in the trunk. I think he still has some growing room.

Ford loves Youtube. We watch 4-wheelers or tractors every afternoon. It is some peaceful time that I can get something done for about 1minute and 37 seconds until the show is over and he is screaming “I show you what I want to watch!” We do this for about 30 minutes!

This pregnancy is absolutely KILLING my face. My complexion looks like that of a 15 year old. I take that back, it’s worse. I wash my face twice a day, use Proactive and the other night I even decided to use a deep cleansing mud mask…..

Ha ha ha!!!! I hope that picture just brought you a lot of joy. I took a picture of myself and sent it to a few of my friends in my phone that I knew would appreciate it. The next day I showed that picture to Trey and he said, “Who is that?” Ford even wanted to know who it was!!! I think the freaky looking eyes threw them off!!!!

Well, Monday at 9:00 A.M. is the big day. All fingers are crossed that the lady will be able to tell the sex of Toto. Send up a few prayers that all checks out okay. Ultra sounds always make me super nervous. Next time I blog I will let y’all know. Until then……….

How Pregnancy Has Changed My Life: Part 2

About two months ago I sat down and started writing a list of things. The list was ALL about how pregnancy had changed my life. This was during the weeks that I honestly thought I might die. I saved my list and went back and read it. It’s a good thing I didn’t post it because many of you might have driven to Mayberry to check on me. I was very negative and it sounded like I hated my life. I did hate the way I felt but fortunately that sickness has gone away. I edited my list and came up with….

How Pregnancy Has Changed My Life

1. I started wearing maternity pants at 7 weeks pregnant.
2. I can truly say I know what indigestion feels like.
3. I carry an entire thing of Tums in my purse every day.
4. It only took me 6 weeks to realize prenatal vitamins made me sick this go round.
5. I have shortness of breath.
6. My drive to do pretty much anything after dark is gone.
7. I don’t cook and rarely clean.
8. I get up 2 to 4 times a night to use the bathroom.
9. I am very sensitive to smells.
10. I have headaches more often.
11. I am always thirsty.
12. I wear things to school that were out of style 5 years ago and I don’t care.
13. Bending over now is uncomfortable.
14. Walking up stairs makes me feel like I have run a half marathon.
15. I am hungry all the time. I am afraid I may gain 50 pounds.
16. Trey thinks I am very moody.
17. Being pregnant is the biggest motivator for wanting to be cute and skinny.
18. My belly button is changing shape.
19. There were weeks when I felt like a drug addict with my Zofran and Phenergan.
20. Pregnancy doesn’t consume my thoughts this time. I never read baby books.
21. I am content with being pregnant. Last time I wanted to speed the process up. I know I won’t be getting much sleep when Toto comes.
22. I have felt worse this round. I am more uncomfortable and I have 23 weeks to go.

A New Fetish

Last weekend I decided to make the dinner plans. This is very out of my character. Normally I just go with whatever Trey wants to do for supper. I even thought outside of the box on where we would eat. I don’t eat sushi. Trey loves it. We ended up at a Japanese restaurant with a hibachi grill. I was really excited to take Ford since he had never been a part of “the performance”.

Puddin and Pops came to join, but not eat.

Ohhhh, when they lit the grill on fire at our table it scared Ford to death.

He soon got over it and was laughing at clapping at the cook. He told me, “I go back there one time, momma”.

We were in Jackson some this week. On Monday night Trey and I went to Delbert Hoseman’s, the secretary of state, house. I got to meet some of Trey’s new buddies. On Tuesday we had planned to go to the governor’s inauguration, but due to the weather they moved it inside. I wasn’t about to take Ford Lamar inside to such a big event. Besides, we have almost watched all the 4-wheelers mud riding on You Tube and I wasn’t prepared to deal with an outburst. He and I opted for the Children’s Museum which is much more his speed anyway.

Tuesday night was the governor’s inaugural ball at the convention center. I was a little worried about attending such, since events like this don’t float my pregnant boat too much. You can’t really see my bump in this picture because it’s two black outfits against each other, but I was definitely poking out. The slender look is thanks to the pregnant SPANX I was sporting!!!!!! Ahhhhh it was worth every bit of the $38.00 I spent on them!!!!!!

I told Trey when we got there that I felt a little under dressed. Some of these women were reliving all their prom fantasies from years ago. I hated I didn’t get out my old threads!

I have decided since talking to some people that a lot of y’all have a false preconceived notion of me. I am not one who enjoys getting all fancied up and going to these political functions, although I better get used to it. I would much rather be at home in my pajama pants and a big t-shirt. I think I have become a bit antisocial in my older age!

Ford has several fetishes. Tractors are his major love. He has discovered a new one today. Bras!!! I was straightening up the house and I heard Ford come running out of the guest room squealing with delight screaming “What’s them momma?” When I realized what he was holding I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. He had a pair of stick on bras. I am not even sure if that is the right terminology for the things. I am pretty sure I haven’t worn them in many years, but he managed to find them under the guest bed. Then he played with them all afternoon!

After supper he picked up this picture and started laughing. He said, “Momma, does Ford have on a bra?” Where does he come up with this stuff?

I am excited Monday is MLK/Robert E. Lee holiday. I need a break from all the paperwork we have to do at school. Speaking of, I am off to do some now

Strap 'em on

Well, it’s official. The time is here. No, I have not lost my mind, yet, but Trey is now officially “The Gentleman from Tate County”.

After months of discussion of if he should or should not run for office we, after much prayer, decided he should run for State Representative. We then sweated out a few months of who our opponent would be and to our great fortune it was no one!! That is almost unheard of especially when the incumbent is leaving office. The seat was vacant and no one but Trey stepped up to the plate!! I, of course, then stressed over schedules dealing with my child and we have found a wonderful young high school girl to come and take Ford to school every day since I have to be at work so early. Things are settling in to place.

We headed down to Jackson yesterday after work. This morning BoomPa, Gran, Ford, and I stopped to check out the Supreme Court Building. My parents hadn’t seen the new building.

Noon was the time of the swearing in ceremony at the State Capitol. We knew lots of people would be there so we headed over early.

It’s hard on a little fella to sit and wait for 30 minutes…

We were all called to order by Delbert Hoseman, Secretary of State, and then led in two prayers. Next, a lady called attendance. She would say “District #1 Smith, District # 2 Jones ( I am making these names up)… District #8 Lamar!!!! After many, many names had been called I poked Trey and asked just how many Representatives there were. I was told 122. Lastly, the Representatives took the oath of office.

The entire thing lasted about twenty minutes. The longest part was listening to all 122 names being called out. During that time I had my snazzy new phone out showing Ford some clips of 4-wheelers riding in the mud on You Tube. Don’t judge me… it was a brilliant idea to keep a 2 year old quiet!

As soon as all the Representatives took the oath of office everyone else was asked to leave. It was kind of sad. I hugged Trey goodbye, told him I would see him Friday, and we went to eat. Poor Ford just doesn’t have a clue. When we made it back to Mayberry he got all excited thinking Daddy was at home. He was stuck with mean old momma!

I got a little sad when I got home and realized that I wasn’t going to hear squeaky brakes pulling in the car port at supper time tonight. Ford was acting up pretty badly late this afternoon and I had a small melt down. I think part of it was these TERRIBLE pregnancy hormones I have going on. I really am not a crier. I like to think I am tough. I am probably not quite as tough as I would like for people to think that I am though. I decided after my little spell that I needed to pull it together and STRAP ON MY BIG GIRL PANTS! I have the next 4 months ahead of me. I can make the best of it or the worst of it. I am choosing to make the best of it. Trey has been given an amazing opportunity and I am so excited for him and pray that this will be a wonderful experience.

I have to realize that I am not the only mom who is at home with a child alone. My own mother went through this type of experience. No, my dad wasn’t in politics, but he is a banker which caused us to move quite a bit. We moved from Carthage, MS to Hernando, MS and he was gone for 8 months. We moved from Hernando, MS to West Point, MS and he was gone for 3 months. We moved from West Point, MS to Southaven, MS and he was gone for 5 months. We moved from Southaven, MS to Hattiesburg, MS and it was only 2 weeks. Now they don’t even live in Hattiesburg anymore, but Olive Branch. My mom is an amazingly strong woman. If she could do it all those times with two kiddos I can manage 4 months with one!

I do welcome your prayers and home cooked meals delivered to my door!!! Seriously, Ford and I will be okay. We need to get used to our new normal and we can’t wait to see our Daddy on Friday.

P.S. I am so glad he doesn’t have the mustache anymore!

Him vs. Me

It really is amazing how things change over the years. Nine years ago I was with all my Tri Delta friends our sophomore year of college headed to Memphis, TN to enjoy a night on Beale Street for New Year’s Eve. Yes, I was under the age of 21, but we all made our way into a bar and that is where I met “him”. Yes, Trey Lamar. He was there too in his rain jacket under the huge tent at Silky’s.

As I think back to that night I would lie down on the floor and pitch a two year old fit if someone told me I had to go to Beale Street right now. I am so glad I was there that night and I was introduced to my husband. The funny thing is, I knew I would marry him right away. I went home after that lovely trip and told one of my best friends that I had met the man I was going to marry and she didn’t believe me. She didn’t believe me for many reasons. I had only had two boyfriends in all the years she had known me, I was beyond picky, and she knew that after a week or two I would drop him like a fly. I even remember telling my mom about how wonderful I thought he was and she responded with, “I hope he doesn’t call too much.” She knew the drill. If they acted too interested I was done. I told her, “Mom, I don’t think this one can call too much.” I actually called him first and he didn’t answer. I remember being so mad at myself for calling him after that. He called back later and said he had been hunting.

Well, 9 years later here we are. I am living in Mayberry with Trey Lamar, aka the Gentleman from Tate County (as he will be known in Jackson), with one beautiful baby boy and Toto on the way. Life is Grand. Trey and I are very different people… Here are some examples…

I am extremely literal. If I say we are going to eat at 5:58 I promise I will be at the table at that time. Trey will come home at 6:15 and wonder why we have already eaten. If I am driving down the road and he calls and asks where I am I could say at the Shell across from People’s Bank. If I asked him the same question he might be at Wal-Mart but tell me he is about to pull in the driveway.

Trey is beyond organized. It’s almost OCD. His closet is color coordinated. His shirts are all hung the same way and finger spaced. My closet looks like a robber came through and threw clothes every direction possible. Trey has all of his shoes neatly placed or on shoe racks and mine are chunked on the floor in a wad.

I always order the same thing at a restaurant. If I find something good I like to stick with it. I usually never need a menu. Trey takes his time carefully examining the choices. He also likes to hear the specials and will ask the waiter what he or she would recommend. I don’t trust what someone would say because I am too picky.

He likes to set his alarm to go off multiple times before he gets out of bed. He says it helps him to wake up. The alarm clock going off to me is a sign of pure annoyance and I jump up immediately.

I am very scheduled orientated and love to know plans and details. I can relax a lot more if I know what to expect. It has become MUCH worse since having a child. I must schedule things around a nap and meal times. Trey is a fly by the seat of your pants kind of person. He has no regard to a schedule. When he is ready to do something he goes with it. I wish I could be more relaxed, but God made me Type A.

Trey likes to read. I don’t. (I hope no one from school finds this out since I am the Accelerated Reader (A.R.) chairman!!!)

I like the norm. Change is not good for me. I can get stuck in a rut from doing the same thing over and over again. Trey isn’t scared of a challenge… hence going to Jackson for 4 months. There is NO WAY possible I could swing something like that. I like my comfort zone.

Trey likes country music. Listening to music about people’s mommas, drinking cold beer on the front porch, and fishing makes my skin crawl.

I hate to read directions or instructions. Better yet, I refuse to. If something that requires assembly or deep concentration needs to be done around here and I am in charge it isn’t going to happen. Trey will sit and meticulously figure it out. I would hire someone to help me!

I like to go to bed early. Trey likes to stay up late. I often find him asleep on the couch with the TV on when I get up for my multiple bathroom trips at night.

I love playing practical jokes, acting silly, singing and dancing around, making weird faces etc. Trey is much too sophisticated for such and asks me why I act the way I do. He also requests that I act normal. He is often the target of my weirdness!

Trey likes to recycle. I am not referring to recycling paper, plastic, or glass. I mean his clothes. He will wear a shirt or pants and has no problem hanging it back up to wear again at a later date. Not I. Even if I wear something for an hour or two it’s going to be washed.

I don’t plan for the future. Trey plans for the future. His wheels are constantly spinning and he has new ideas for me all the time. My mind doesn’t think that way. He also likes to tell me how our house should be decorated differently. He hates the pictures in our dining room and requests that I buy some new ones. I would rather hire a personal shopper.

Trey thinks all meals need something green on the plate. I think all meals need some good starches!

Trey likes the cold weather. I prefer summer. He likes vanilla. I like chocolate. He likes suspense and hard to figure out movies. I like romance and comedy.

As you can see, we are very different people. I could also spend a long time telling you the many ways we are alike. I guess opposites really do attract. I am glad Trey was attracted to me some 9 years ago and has continued to put up with me all this time. I am anxious to see what the future holds for us and our family. Thanks for a great 3,285 days! I love you!!!!!

The museum and year-end stats

In all seriousness, and I am not just saying this, but my house looks like robbers came in and ransacked the place. It’s a mess. It’s such a wreck from Christmas that I don’t even know where to start. Instead of cleaning this disaster zone like a good wife would do I am sitting here blogging about Lamar family nonsense.

Ford has been asking for a while to go back to the Children’s Museum. I discussed the matter with my sister in-law, Ashley, and we set a date. The day was today. It was a fun time. See below….

We sat in the car and waited on the cousins to arrive for a while. When Ford was finally released he had to run some laps.

Beanbag toss

The grocery store was tons of fun. However Ford doesn’t always follow the rules. You are only supposed to put 3 items in your buggy at a time.

When we asked him to take a picture he decided to get rough and tough like any good boy would do and ram his buggy into Caroline’s.

We ended our trip with lunch at Chick-fil-a then home for a nap.

It’s hard to believe that 2011 is coming to an end. Here are some year-end stats on the little man.

He weighs 29 pounds, wears a size 6.5 to 7 shoe, and anywhere from 18 months to 2T clothes.
He wears a size 4 diaper during the day and size 5 at night. He still isn’t interested in potty training.
He loves meat but won’t have anything to do with fruit. We have to feed him apple sauces to get credit for that part of the food guide pyramid. Some of his favorite things to eat are: chicken tenders, French fries, mac-n-cheese, greenbeans, nuts, goldfish, pretzels, cheese, chips, hamburgers, etc.
He hates loud noises. I can make him behave a lot of times by saying I will call the firemen to come with loud noises if he doesn’t act right (mother of the year, I know).
He is OBSESSED with tractors and all farm equipment. He also loves, trains, 4-wheelers, trucks, flashlights, painting, coloring, watching Bob the Builder, and looking at tractors on you tube.
He still has a pacifier which he calls a paci. I baby him probably more than I should, but I tell Trey all the time you only get to be a child for a short time and you get to be an adult for a long time. I hold him a lot which is probably why my back has felt so fabulous lately.
He loves to get Trey’s stool out of his closet and carry it around the house and crawl on stuff, turn the lights on etc.
He prefers to wear his rain boots with most of his attire. I usually have to tell him stuff doesn’t match to make him wear something else.
He calls cowboy boots “tennaboots”… a nice mixture between tennis shoes and boots.
He knows how to spell his name, F-O-R-D. He also knows his “other name” Jefferson Hannaford Lamar.
He knows when his birthday is, what he address is, what town he lives in, what everyone’s first name is (mine, Trey’s Puddin, Pops, Gran, BoomPa etc).
He knows all of his colors. He can count to 20 if he concentrates. He can say most of the alphabet.
He knows I am a teacher and daddy is a lawyer.
Ford is still convinced that I am having a girl and the baby will be called Toto.

He loves to cuddle and kiss. It melts my heart when he randomly tells me “I love ew momma”.
When he watches a movie on the couch he requests that I come and “cuddle bug” with him.
He has an amazing memory and will bring up things that happened months ago to discuss.
He can remember people’s names so well. I think he might be a politician if the tractor obsession wears off.
He says his girlfriend’s name is Allyx. She is a cute little girl at his baby sitter’s house.
I still wash all of his stuff in Dreft because it reminds me of him being a baby. Plus he has sensitive skin so I don’t want to chance anything.
Ford is a cautious child when you present him with something new. He likes to watch others do something before he dives into it.
He is my baby and promises he will always be even when he is a big boy like daddy. I call him “Wooga”.

Jesus' Birthday

We really had a wonderful Christmas. I will go as far as to say this was my favorite one yet. I tried my best not to plan too much (that is extremely hard considering my personality) and enjoy the special time with my family. It was great.

On Christmas Eve we went to my parents’ house for breakfast and presents. The kids were having a hard time eating their food while all the presents stared them in the face. We got a few bites down them before they ripped into all their goods.

We stopped for a while to check the computer to locate Santa. At that point he was in Nepal.

Santa Clause found Mayberry and left Ford all kinds of goodies. Ford was not interested in the practical gifts like the sleeping bag, stool, or book bag. Who would be when tractors are involved!!!!!???!!!!

We must work on how one is to lie in a sleeping bag. It’s definitely not head first.

We had the whole crew at our house before 7:00 A.M. Gran and BoomPa spent the night and Puddin, Pops, and Uncle Vance headed over about 6:45. Ford was up before that time and it was killing him not to get down and play. We had to quarantine him in the kitchen until they arrived.

I got some new boots! They look fantastic with my pajamas!

Trey also got boots and Ford found some boots wrapped under the tree. We are all set now!

Santa brought Ford some Eric Carle books with cds. I was so excited that we could read the book along with the cd. He wasn’t interested… again, tractors are much cooler than books.

After church we headed to Puddin and Pop’s house for some more festivities. Ford got a tent at their house. It was a big hit and everyone had to get inside!

And last, but not least, we had Christmas at Bobba’s house, Trey’s grandmother.

I “thought” I sent out the memo to the family that I didn’t want them to give Ford any toys. Apparently no one listens to me because they all brought him presents. He thoroughly enjoyed himself since he was the center of attention.

Ford had a wonderful Christmas. It was so special because he understood that yesterday was a big day and told me several times it was Jesus’ birthday. He is ready for Santa to come back, but our house can’t hold anymore toys. For his birthday the invite will say “NO gifts please.” My house is borderline ridiculous.

Oh and I have joined 2011 and gotten an IPhone. If you would like to see top quality videos of Ford and me singing “Bob the Builder” just let me know and I will send it your way. I must prepare you that we are full of talent and you will be amazed.

Christmases of the past

Christmas time is closing in on us and I truly hope God will let me slow down and enjoy the next two days. I am a very fast paced person. I tend to make lots of plans in my head and make sure everything is running accordingly and I miss out on a lot. Of course I have the next two days planned out in my head, but I hope I can sit back, soak it all in, and enjoy this special holiday season.

This is my seventh Christmas to be married. Trey and I married in 2005 and spent our first two years in Jackson, MS, while he completed law school. We lived on my salary alone and money was very tight. We made it through those two years and never wanted for a thing. Those were some of our favorite times spent in our little house, in the cul-de-sac, before we had so much responsibility on our plates.

Our first Christmas at the Peabody (just a visit... we didn’t stay there)

For our first Christmas I decided to get Trey a coat. They didn’t have his size at the store so I had to order one and have it shipped to our house. The package came to our house one evening and he came in holding the coat up saying “what’s this?” I was so mad at him. Number one he ruined his Christmas present and number two he opened mail that was not addressed to him. I have since expressed how you DON’T open other people’s mail unless given permission to.

Our second Christmas

Like I said, we didn’t have much money. A lot of the presents we bought for family were from credit money we had left over from our wedding gifts. Some of our gifts were wrapped in Diet Dr. Pepper and Saltine Cracker boxes. We didn’t have a “tree” that one would consider to be a Christmas tree. It was and still is a tree that Puddin and Pops use in their pool house. I never took a picture of it with our 3 ornaments on it but I did get a picture of it this afternoon. It’s about 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Our house was so small it was perfect. We didn’t have a Christmas tree skirt so I used a green sheet Trey had from college!

Thinking back on that little tree makes me laugh. Those were some special memories that I love thinking about. Now we are able to make new memories. We have a bigger tree. It’s not better because half of the lights on my pre-lit tree don’t work. We have a real Christmas tree skirt that I personally sewed with my own two hands and the boxes I used to wrap my gifts this year didn’t come from my pantry.

Since Ford came along I have made a gingerbread man every year. This year he got to help me decorate our little fella.

He has been so excited about Christmas all month. He knows that it is more than toys and can fill you in on a lot of details about Jesus. It makes us so proud as parents. I am looking forward to the next two days. I know it will be a magical time for the Lamars!

FORD

· What does he want for Christmas? Tractors, tractors, tractors. We will also throw in a puppy (it’s a new one), a big 4-wheeler, and a John Deere gator. All things boy.

· Is Ford excited about being a big brother? Yes. He is constantly asking me when the baby is coming out. He believes Toto is a girl and probably green. He tells me he will love on her and burp her.

JILL

· Are you feeling better? Yes. When I stopped taking prenatal vitamins I felt soooo much better. It was amazing to me how they could completely ruin my day. Now, I don’t feel 100% old Jill again by any means. I actually feel worse at night than I do any other time of the day. Supper usually makes me feel pretty blah so I go to bed early.

· Do you know what you are having yet? No, we will find out Monday, January 23^rd at 9:00 A.M.

· What do you think you’re having? A girl. I have felt completely different this go round. Smells bother me a lot more than when I was pregnant with Ford. I can’t sleep nearly as good as I could with him. Brushing my teeth is torturous. I have more headaches and am plain out exhausted.

· Are you quitting your job? No, I will be back in that classroom on January 2 with bells on. My babies need me. It is amazing how many people think I am not going back in January.

· Are you going to be okay while Trey is in Jackson? Yes, I will be fine. Tired, but fine.

· Are ya’ll moving to Jackson? No, we will still live in Senatobia.

· Are ya’ll building a house on your new property since you are having a baby? No, we are adding a room onto our house for Toto.

TREY

· Is he quitting his job as a lawyer? No, he will still work at Lamar and Hannaford, but will be in Jackson during the week while the Legislature is in session.

· How long will he be gone? January 2- May 6 = 120 week days of working. Anyone who feels sorry for me may donate supper to the cause.

· Where will he live? Puddin has a house down there that she stays in during the week. If you remember she is a Supreme Court Justice. Trey will bunk up at her house.

Big Man

On Saturday we ventured to Sebastopol, MS, to visit my Dad’s side of the family. Ford loves going because he knows that they have tractors and 4-wheelers. Uncle Pettey took the little man for a ride.

And Ford attacked some big cousins during the visit.

I left work early on Thursday because Ford had fever. We went to the doctor and I was told he had tonsillitis. Over the weekend he got a place on his face which looked like a fever blister. Then he ended up with a spot on his hand, rash on his bottom, and chicken pox type marks on his legs. I took him back to the doctor yesterday and he now has impetigo. It’s always something exciting happening around here. I tried to get a picture of his face. He wasn’t cooperating.

Last night the Big Man came to see us. When he walked in the door Ford scream, “Santa Claus!!! Where are the toys?” Gotta love the mind of a two year old.

Yes!!! Sweet-tart candy canes!!!

Ford told him he wanted green tractors, 4-wheelers, and last night he even threw in a new puppy to pull in his wagon. I think Delta will be sufficient enough!

When Santa left he said, “Merry Christmas to you Santa. I hope to see you soon.” It was so cute! We got it all on video. Ford even showed Santa some of his new tractors. He loves the Big Man.

I made Ford a Christmas chain at school. Every night before bed we pull one link off. He knows that when they are all gone Santa is coming with toys. Last night I wanted to take a picture of Daddy and Ford in action. Trey’s arm got in the way and I told him I couldn’t get the picture. This is the look I got. He forgets how powerful I am …. I can blog about him!

Christmas is ten days away and I am not really in the Christmas spirit. No, I am not Scrooge, but I have been so busy with school, errands, and trying to create this little life inside of me that I haven’t felt all Holly and Jolly. Trey keeps telling me we don’t have many decorations out. We don’t. I honestly don’t have that much Christmas décor. And we have one gift under our tree that I didn’t even wrap. I should be wrapping presents now and not blogging, but this is so therapeutic. And Mrs. Mary Jane will send me an e-mail if I wait too long in between blogs and tell me I need to update!!!

Its 12:00 on Thursday and I am at home with a sick baby. Ford has 101 and we are headed to the doctor after his nap. I’m guessing it’s an ear infection. Or at least hoping that’s what it is because they aren’t contagious and I sure don’t need to be sick.

We had breakfast with Santa last Saturday morning. Ford loves Santa and isn’t hesitant at all to sit in his lap. On this particular morning he decided he’d make faces at the camera.

Trey has been “needing” to go hunting a lot lately. I “need” to do a lot of things too, but that doesn’t always happen. Well, last weekend he killed a buck… Ford wanted his picture taken with it.

The other day Ford said I’m going to hide momma. This is where I found him.

Yesterday Ford had a party at school and Santa came. He has about 12 children in his class. Ford was the first one to run right up there. Parents were amazed with his bravery. I was tickled at how other kids screamed and cried like they were being abused when they had to sit with him.

This is another outfit I had made. I bought the material, had my friend sew it, and then another lady to monogram it. I would have paid about $60.00 in a store and I spent between $20 and $25.

The children were supposed to sit down. Not Ford Lamar. He’ll stand by the candy please.

And as all the adults sang “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” Ford had a look of disgust on his face. He hates when I sing and screams “STOP”… it’s bad, but I didn’t know it was that bad!

I really hope my two week break from school will be LONG and restful. Until next time…

Fancy

Do you have nicknames for people? I do. I have nicknames for most people that don’t even know I have a nickname for them. I just think them in my head when I talk to that person. I have had a lot of nicknames for Trey over the years. His most recent is “Fancy”. I think it is very suitable for his current lifestyle.

First, Fancy goes elk hunting.

A month later he goes to games 6 and 7 of the World Series.

Then he goes quail hunting because “it’s part of his job”.

And now he is a Representative!!! I remind him often that we balance each other out so well because I am a lowly peon. We got this in the mail today and it was worth documenting. Will someone please send me some official looking mail? I feel left out.

Trey spent several days in Jackson this week in meetings. Here is his newest pledge class!

I didn’t know 6 ½ years ago when we got married that I was going to be a politician’s wife. Someone better teach me how to act!!! We have several upcoming events in which I will be required to attend. I told Fancy I would be needing some new threads since my maternity wardrobe is limited.

I am very proud of all of Trey’s accomplishments and I know he will make a great addition to the Legislature. The people of Mayberry also have big aspirations that he can make some positive changes for our community. Hats off to Fancy!!!!!!!

The Vitamins

I feel that it is important to start off with a positive. I FEEL BETTER (yes, imagine me yelling that)!!! I honestly don’t think I can even begin to explain how terrible I felt for about 4 weeks. I was at an all-time low. I think I was close to depression. My house was and still is a wreck, I wasn’t cooking, there was no motivation to do anything, bedtime was at 7:00, and the “get up” I wore to school said enough about how I felt. I had one good friend who came into my classroom and laughed and said “What do you have on?” I had on purplish colored Toms, red and green Christmas socks, black yoga pants that three people could have fit in, and a pull over fleece. I am surprised I wasn’t reprimanded for my attire.

One night last week I forgot to take my prenatal vitamins and felt like Jill the next day. It later occurred to me that the vitamins were the cause of my extreme illness and now I am taking a Flintstones and a Folic Acid and I feel sooooooo much better.

Certain foods and smells seem to gross me out sometimes. I am always thirsty and craving something cold. I found these little treats near the apple sauce at Wal-Mart. Freeze and eat… Love them!

Ford has a Christmas count down chain in his room. Every night we tear one link off. I asked him if he knew what it meant when all the chains were gone. He didn’t. I told him that meant Santa was coming. Well, he is pretty fired up about Old St. Nick. I feel like a bad mother because the two things he wants for Christmas he isn’t getting. He wants a big 4-wheeler. The kind you must be 16 to drive. That isn’t happening… he can ride Puddin and Pop’s for the next few years. Last weekend when we were at Wal-Mart (yes, I took him. Not my brightest idea yet considering ALL the toys they have out at that place). When we passed the bike section he started yelling for me to go that way. At the end of the bike section there was a John Deere gator. It’s a two-seater battery operate jeep looking thing. He started getting loud about how he needed that and he would ride Toto on it and not buck her off. Bless his heart he won’t be getting a 4-wheeler or a gator.

Puddin put up her nativity scene at her house. Ford loves to go and play with all the pieces and it’s really amazing how he understands this year. He can tell you about Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, and he knows that Christmas is Jesus’s birthday. It makes my heart so happy.

Trey has been super busy. He has been in Jackson several times already for Legislature stuff. I have had friends tease me and ask if they can come to the Christmas parties we throw at the Governor’s mansion when Trey becomes governor one day. I don’t think we will be going that far!

Pops is FINISHED with chemo! He is doing so great. I always thought/heard that chemo was so terrible. He has worked every single day and not missed single beat. All of his scans have looked great!!! Thank you to all who have prayed for him!

I promise to blog again before another week has passed.

Who's the Boss?

Do you remember the TV show called “Who’s the Boss”? Well at our house we have a boss as well. It’s not Trey, Ford, Delta, or myself. It’s Toto. Toto pretty much plans out my day for me. For instance, yesterday I woke up at 5:00 A.M. for school and this was upsetting to Toto. She insisted that I lie down on the bathroom floor for a while and feel bad. Usually Toto likes for me to get in bed early evening while Ford watches “Bob the Builder” and then I go to sleep at 7ish. I feel like a drug addict because I took Zofran until I became immune to it and now I am on to Phenergan. The whole deal of “morning sickness” doesn’t apply to me because I feel bad pretty much all day long.

On Thanksgiving we went to my parent’s house. The day went well until I ate lunch. I felt bad and we had to go home. I did get some cute pictures before we left.

I think it’s very important that Ford has special Christmas memories when he grows up. So not only does he have a lovely strand of colored light hanging in his room, he also has his very own Christmas tree.

We even painted some ornaments for his tree.

If you remember I said that Ford decided he wanted a green sister. Well, Aunt Ashley and the girls found Ford a baby Shrek doll and now he has a green sister. She sleeps with him and I even saw him attempting to share his milk with her. So sweet.

Ford got invited to a farm/tractor birthday party last weekend and he had a LARGE time.

On the way home from the party we stopped by the Kroger. No, not in Mayberry…. We aren’t that fancy. Ford saw this dog cake and HAD TO HAVE IT.

My tree is up thanks to Puddin. Ever year she has come to help me decorate, but this year I really don’t think one would be up if she didn’t help. My drive to do things is at an all-time low. Thank you Puddin!!!

And here is my Christmas tree skirt I worked on for about 3 months!!!!!

I went to the doctor last Monday (before our trip to the E.R.) and had my first ultra sound. We have one baby in there and all is well. I had actually lost 1 pound which was surprising considering the size of my belly.

Ford is better. He lost 3 pounds while he had the bug and looks like a scrawny little man. Keep me in your prayers. I need to feel like the old Jill again.

On Saturday morning after Ford got up he followed me into the bathroom and climbed up on the toilet to watch me put in my contacts. The next thing I knew he had thrown up a little bit of milk. I decided it was drainage and we went about our morning. About thirty minutes later he completely unloaded in front of the frig. I knew at this point it wasn’t drainage. I used almost an entire roll of paper towels cleaning it up… all the while Ford is telling me how proud he is of me for cleaning it up. We made it through the day without any more sickness until about midnight. We literally almost ran out of sheets and pillows.

Sunday the same routine happened again… sick twice in the AM then not until that night. Monday when Ford woke up he threw up again this time accompanied with diarrhea. I had an appointment and ultra sound and told Trey that he needed to take Ford to the doctor and just to let me go to mine alone. We decided since the weather was bad we would all drive to Memphis together. Ford literally didn’t utter a word the entire ride. When we got there he was limp. I quickly told the ladies up front I had a sick baby and to please get me back asap.

We were called back for my ultra sound within minutes. I was so excited to see baby Toto and hear that he/she was healthy. It was amazing that my 9 week old little one was moving around. We got a picture, but I will spare you because Toto looks exactly like a peanut with one little arm sticking out. We saw the doctor and left.

We called Ford’s pediatrician and they told us we couldn’t have an appointment until the afternoon. By this point Trey and I were both worried because Ford started throwing up in the car. We opted for Methodist Lebonheur’s ER. They were great.

We were called back right away. All the rooms were full so they put Ford on a bed in the hall. His cuteness was drawing lots of attention. He fell asleep on the bed. Then it was time for the IV. We prepared all the nurses that it wasn’t going to be pretty. They tied a thick orange rubber band around his arm to locate a vein. Nothing. They thumped his arm and tried to find a vein in his other arm. Nothing. Eventually after 30 minutes, five nurses and 2 sticks they found a vein and were able to draw some blood. Ford never moved. He never cried. Oh, but I did! I had to walk away. His little body was so dehydrated the veins weren’t showing. They finally got us into a room and I got to ride in the bed with him. Within a few minutes he started to move and act like he was coming around. We stayed there for 3.5 hours and were released.

He has thrown up again today, but only once. I hope this is the end of the terrible stomach bug.

Puddin has supplied us with food along with our Sunday school teachers. Lucy and her mom brought Ford some cute pajamas and me some crazy socks. Thanks everyone for taking care of us. Hopefully next time I post Ford will be back to his spunky little self.

End to your day

One of the glorious perks to being a teacher is Thanksgiving break. I have the entire week off, and it’s well deserved. The last 3 weeks have been tough. Being at school from 7:00-3:15 with 22 children and a case of 24/7 nausea are not a good mix. The good news is, today is the first day I have been able to function without medicine. I pray it continues.

My group of Indians made some headbands at school yesterday.

During our social studies lesson on Thursday we had an extensive conversation about the Englishmen coming to North America and settling in Jamestown. I talked about how when they arrived it was basically woods. They didn’t have a Wal-Mart, Fred’s, Walgreens, McDonalds etc. We discussed how many died due to lack of shelter, illness, and starvation. I really thought I was driving the point home and they understood. One little girl raised her hand and said, “Mrs. Lamar, you mean to tell me they didn’t have no Popeye’s Chicken?” All I could think was where did I go wrong!!! Then we talked about how the Native Americans were the first people here and how no one in my class is 100% Indian. I told them they should go home and ask where their ancestors came from. One little guy raised his hand and said, “Mrs. Lamar, I know where I am from, Australia. And also my ancestors are famous for finding out 5 new kinds of tarantulas.” After that comment I was done and social studies was over. Never a dull moment being a teacher.

After school Ford and I needed to go to Wal-Mart to buy a birthday gift for one of his friends. Taking Ford to the toy section of Wal-Mart isn’t a smart idea. He immediately needed to get out of the buggy when he saw this $60.00 fire truck that he REALLY needs Santa Claus to bring him. He also needed about 35 other toys in the store.

Before I left school yesterday I took down all my Thanksgiving stuff and got out the few pieces of Christmas décor I have. I had an extra strand of colored Christmas lights and they had Ford’s name ALL over them. We hung them around his closet. He is so proud and told me several times how pretty they were!

Trey came home early from work yesterday. I thought he was coming to see us, but he really wanted to go scope out the deer before opening morning of gun season. So all of us piled in the truck to go to the farm. Ford and Delta stayed in the back looking out the window. As soon as Delta realized there were about 15 deer in the field she bailed out the window like a bullet to get her a deer. Trey was screaming, Ford was crying, and I was laughing hysterically. Any critter within a 2 mile radius was LONG gone. Ford was so upset thinking his puppy dog was gone forever. Trey finally caught her. I haven’t laughed that hard in months!

Toto

We’ve all seen the movie, The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy, the main character, has a little dog named Toto in the movie. Well, Toto isn’t only the dog in The Wizard of Oz, but Toto is also the name of our new baby… or so Ford says. If you ask Ford what the baby’s name is he replies with “Toto” or sometimes I get “Baby Girl.” If you ask about the baby being a boy… well, it’s not even a question.

Puddin recently got Ford a new outfit. It’s precious. A young girl who works in her building makes clothes and all the profits go to supporting her in the adoption of a baby. I am very pleased with his outfit and the quality. If you are interested check out Cassady Street.

So I have hit the 8 week mark with the nugget. I must say that most people would be impressed with the bump I have grown here.

Who knew that something so small could completely take over your life? My drive has completely been shot. It looks as if a tornado has hit my house. Trey keeps asking when the old Jill, the one he married and met 9 years ago, is going to come back. I want that Jill back too, but I am not sure when that will happen. I am trying to tell myself that all things happen for God’s glory and I don’t feel well for a reason. I have to keep that as my focus.

Pregnancy so far….

Out of 24 hours each day I probably feel bad about 20 of them. I am not trying to be Negative Nancy; I am just laying the facts out there for you. I feel so different this time than I did with Ford. With that being said I have decided this little nugget is a girl.

Ford is dead set on the baby being a girl. He won’t have any part of us talking about a boy or a brother. He keeps telling me to open my stomach so he can see her. I try to explain to him that it will be a very long time before she comes out. There is already a lot of love there for this baby because he said when she comes he will give her his little tractor. NOW THAT IS LOVE PEOPLE!!!!!

I will be 8 weeks this weekend and I am already 100% in maternity pants. I guess this body just knows what to do. I am poking out kind of far which still makes me concerned that I could have multiple babies in there!!!

I have had several people ask me if we are going to build on our new land now that I am pregnant. The answer is no. I am just not ready to go into the long and stressful process of building a house. We have decided to enclose our back porch to make another bedroom. We never use our back porch and it’s the perfect place for a nursery. I will also be upgrading to a more family friendly ride than the Accord within a few months as well. Don’t jump to conclusions, because I don’t think I am the minivan type, but maybe a nice SUV. I know you minivan moms will probably give me some feedback on how much you love yours. I know my sister in-law loves her ride!!!

I really hope my zest for life comes back soon. Poor Trey is lonely since I am getting in bed some nights before 7:00. I just feel so icky that sleeping is the only thing that helps. My house is a mess, the laundry needs to be done, and I haven’t cooked in a while. It’s times like this that I need my momma!!!!

The Lord really knows what I need. Lucy and my friend, Drew, have volunteered to come and play with Ford so I can rest or get some housework done. And my mom said she would provide us with some supper! Ohhh thank you all!!!!!!

Lately whenever it’s time to go somewhere Ford feels the need to wear his rain boots and his shades. You only get to be a kid once so I say wear what you want as long as you’re covered.

You are only as cool as you think you are, and Ford Lamar thinks he’s pretty darn cool.

Last night we took Ford to Puddin and Pop’s house to spend the night. Trey told Ford to take off his jacket once we got settled. Puddin made a strange face and said “Ford, what does your shirt say?” Without hesitation, Ford said “F-O-R-D”. The shirt didn’t say Ford, yet “BIG BROTHER”. Then this morning my parents came down and Ford told them he was going to be a big brother. So the news is out…. I have a bun in the oven.

So I hear if you are nauseated then you have a healthy baby. I need for ALL America to know that Baby Lamar is very well and coming along nicely, because I feel TERRIBLE. I am sooooo excited to be pregnant and can’t wait to meet this little “nugget”, but I just feel horrible. After feeling like I would throw up on my feet at school for 2 weeks I finally broke down and called the doctor almost in tears for some medicine. The medicine works okay, but I still feel pretty lousy. So if you know of some anit nausea treatments shoot them my way.

The Story….

So after 3 negative pregnancy tests I finally had a faint plus sign on Monday, October 17. An hour and a half after I took my test I made a sign that said big brother and pinned it on Ford’s pajamas and we went and woke up Trey. He was excited but I told him he couldn’t tell anyone.

I had already planned to take that Wednesday off to go on Ford’s field trip so I also scheduled a doctor appointment for that same day. I asked my mom to keep Ford while I went and told her I was having some issues I needed to get checked out. She had no idea I was going because I was pregnant. It was confirmed that a baby was indeed on board and I left.

In the meantime, my appetite drastically increased as did my waist line and pants became an issue. I did the rubber band trick on the buttons and then it just didn’t work anymore. I desperately needed my maternity clothes that I let a friend borrow. It’s hard to just come out and ask for them back if no one thinks you are pregnant.

We had big plans to make the announcement on Thanksgiving but since I am fat and nauseated we decided to spread the good news.

So I am 7 weeks along and due June 22.

Ford has never been a big fan of TV. TV interfered with his tractor playing time. However, lately he has become quite fond of Bob the Builder. Here is my baby tonight watching some Bob before bed.

We are praying for a healthy baby. I think I am scaring Trey that we might have twin girls on board. Why? Twins because I am already showing and my appetite is that of a large man, and girls because I was never sick with Ford and I am now. I guess we will see soon enough!!!! P.S. I really think it’s just one baby in there, I just like to ruffle Trey’s feathers!!!

I am amazed to say that Halloween was a success and the only thing that happened to the tractor was one pipe fell off. But as Trey told me, tractors only have one pipe. Ford wore his tractor with pride and really likes this Halloween business.

We started off at 5:00 with Bobba, Puddin, and Pops coming to see the little man being transformed into a tractor.

Bobba brought her own bucket of goodies for Ford to fish out.

Puddin forgot candy so she gave money. Now that is what I call getting a treat!!!!

Thursday Ford had his Halloween party at school. Since I couldn’t go I was the “annoying” mom who sent her camera and asked the teacher if she would take some pictures for me. I’m so glad she did!!!

It looks like he had a big time.

Last night we went to a Halloween party (kid style) in Olive Branch. It was a costume party, but since Ford’s costume is fragile he didn’t get to wear his in the bouncy house.

Ford loves his Pops. They share a special bond of tractor riding. We took Ford’s tractor out to Puddin and Pop’s house tonight so Ford could help mow.

We did the traditional Lamar family pumpkin carving tonight. We kind of waited until the last minute because Fancy, Trey, has been gone to game #6 and #7 of the World Series in St. Louis. I have recently named him Fancy since he has been traveling so much on elk hunts to Wyoming and now to the World Series. I think I deserve a big Christmas?????!!!!!!!

I am probably one of the most scheduled and uptight people that God made. On Sundays I like to get up over 2 hours (sometimes 3) before church so we can leisurely get ready and enjoy our morning. Sunday school starts at 9:45 which to Trey means he can get in the shower at 9:30 (this is Mayberry…nothing is more than 2 blocks away). With that being said, Ford and I are always ready for church before Trey showers. We took some pictures of an outfit Gran found for Ford and I had monogrammed.

Yep, there are those initials that confuse everyone…. Where’s the “F”??????

On Monday we took Ford to Trey old stomping grounds, Magnolia Heights, to their fall festival. Trey loves Magnolia Heights (his old school) and I kid him about being the alumni of the century. I haven’t been back to my high school since I left 10 years ago.

Ford had a large time playing all the games. He didn’t actually get the concept of you have to stand “behind” the line and throw the beanbag through the hole. He got frustrated and walked up there and tossed it in. He still got a prize.

Ford couldn’t understand why it kept shooting his ball back out so he had to get down close and personal and examine this machine.

And yet he got another prize….

He wasn’t into the bowling quite as much as the other games. He had his sights set on bigger things….

We’ve had Red Ribbon (Drug Awareness/Prevention) week at school. Each day is themed (yes, this school LOVES to dress up) and I have been participating. Yesterday was career day. I told Ruth, Lucy’s sister, and my ex-trainer’s daughter, to dress like me. The attire consisted of light khaki pants, a pink shirt, and a blue jean jacket. Ruth even managed to put her hair in a ponytail and wrap hair around the rubber band just like I do. I was so proud!!

Today I took Ford to get a flu shot. On the way to Memphis he kept saying, “Where going momma?” I would just say we are going to Memphis. When we got to the doctor’s office he figured out where we were and said “Am I sick momma?” I told him he was not sick. I refused to sit in the waiting room and get contaminated with all those germs so we waited in the lobby and Ford was so well behaved…. Can you tell?

Forty-five minutes later we were called back to a room. Ford was ecstatic our room had a fire truck. He kept yelling “Vvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooommmm.” I left the door open in hopes that his stellar behavior would hurry the ladies along. When the nurse came in Ford said, “What her doing in here momma?” Then I was told to make him lie down and hold his hands. You could sense the fear in his eyes when I pulled those pants down. Bless his little heart because he said “Don’t let her hurt me momma.” Oh and she did. He was MAD and yelling. The sweet tarts didn’t even help as much as I thought they would. We ran by Target and found some junk at the “Dollar Spot” which calmed him down a bit and then had supper with BoomPa.

We sure are looking forward to Halloween and wearing that tractor that I have had to hide on top of my china cabinet.

Tomorrow is Ford’s Halloween party at school…. He is pumped…I wish I could go =(

Trey asked me if we would go with him to the Ole Miss vs. Arkansas game. I kindly turned him down since I had a lot of laundry to do along with finalizing Ford’s Halloween costume. As I said before, when I looked for costumes nothing really screamed “Ford” to me so I opted for making him a costume. What does Ford love?????.... tractors of course. So what will Ford be for Halloween? A tractor!!!

All the teachers at school agreed he should be a tractor as well. One teacher found a picture of a tractor color sheet online and I printed it out. I had the color sheet made into an overhead transparency and I traced the tractor onto foam filled project board.

I then stole my recycle box from school and Puddin cut a hole in the top for Ford to fit through.

I spray painted the box green.

I used a box cutter which was risky (I might cut myself) and cut out 2 tractors, 4 wheels, and 2 headlights.

Goober and the Pumpkin Patch

I often times tell Trey that he is the smartest person I know, however I do wonder why he does some of the things he does. On Tuesday I went to pick Ford up from school. When I saw him walking out of the snack room I immediately said, “What does he have on”? His father had dressed him in the clothes I laid out, but put on socks and sandals. Apparently the poor baby had been laughed at all day for his nerdiness done to him by his father. We quickly went to the office and discussed dress code etiquette.

Wednesday I took the day off to go on Ford’s first field trip. I don’t know who was more excited, Ford or me. It was a nasty day but we got all dressed and headed to the church for the meet up. Then we drove caravan style to Hernando, MS to visit Cedar Hill Farm. This is a working farm with lots do to. First we were given cups of feed and got to give the critters a snack.

We played with our best girlfriend at school, Anna Lauren. Ford also taught her how to properly use “dang it” in a sentence!

We rode the train pulled by a lawn mower. It was just as good as a real train to Ford though. He was ready for some more as soon as our turn was over.

There was a chicken show with singing and fun facts about chickens.

And there was some straw. Thank goodness it wasn’t hay or I would have been a sneezing fool.

We also got to ride horses. His teachers were so tickled watching him ride because they had never seen him act so serious. I think he was just holding on for dear life.

No farm is complete without a tractor. Ford kept asking me where the key was.

We had a hay ride pulled by a big tractor which Ford asked the man if he could drive. We had to sit in the back which didn’t sit well with my little man.

And Ford got to pick his very own pumpkin, but all he really wanted to do some ride that big green tractor.

He was ticked… it was cold and he wanted to drive the tractor.

Since I started off making fun of Trey for dressing my child like a goober, I will end on a positive note. Trey had his very first jury trial yesterday and today and HE WON!!! I’m so proud of him.

On Saturday we took the little man to Oxford for the Ole Miss vs. Alabama game. We began talking about going to the football gave several days in advance and Ford could hardly contain himself. I managed to squeeze in a morning nap (he was in a foul mood) before we ventured to see our Rebels.

I usually successfully manage to mess up Ford’s outfit on game day. Last year I had him dressed like this… for the Ole Miss vs. Kentucky game. Clearly the wrong colors…

And this year he had an elephant on his shirt!! Ooopppsssssss

We did find Colonel Rebel or someone dressed like him.

He enjoyed driving his tractors and getting all dirty before the game even started. Little boys should be covered in dirt I guess.

Ford was so big sitting in his own seat. We lasted only a few minutes though.

Ford likes to help me get dressed in the mornings. On Sunday he pulled out my velcro rollers that I no longer use anymore because what mom has time for those. I had plenty of time when I was 18 and bought them. Now I have to make do with my signature pony tail!

Trey gets perturbed when I do stuff like this to Ford, but he clearly asked me to put them in his hair.

We got ready for church a few minutes early and Ford needed to go saw on my bushes for a bit.

On Wednesday I get to go with this little man on his field trip! I am so excited… I know we will have quality pictures to come.

Picking Pumpkins

Monday and Tuesday I had fall break from school. Ahhhhhh how nice it was to be home for two days to sleep past 5:00, do some laundry, watch 5 seconds of the Today Show, play with Ford, and cook some real supper. I could totally get used to working 3 days a week. I even had some time to cook a new recipe which is a keeper. I found it off of the pinterest website I have blogged about several times. It says to cook it in a crock pot, which I did. I had never (personally, myself) cooked in our crock pot so this was a big step for Jill Lamar. I truly believe you could cook it another way… crock pot not needed.

CHICKEN SALSA

1 lb. chicken (I used boneless, skinless… and chopped it with my hand held chopper)
1 can cream of chicken
1 cup salsa
1 package taco seasoning
1 cup sour cream
1 can black beans (rinsed… I used half a can)
cheddar cheese

Put chicken, soup, and salsa in crock pot. Sprinkle taco seasoning. Cook 6 hours on low. Stir in sour cream, black beans, and cheese and heat (I did this about the last 10 minutes). I served it on top of rice.

We went to pick pumpkins again this year. It amazes me how Ford’s little mind works. My mom, Gran, was talking to Ford about pumpkins and he remembers where we put them at our house last year. This time last year he wasn’t even 1 ½ years old. My child literally forgets nothing.

When Ford gets bored he starts to get into all my stuff. I decided he needed an extensive coloring project. I went and got some brown wrapping paper and we traced his body.

And you can’t see it on the paper, but he had to color the “little man”. It was a good idea for about 5 minutes.

I am in the process of making Ford’s Halloween costume. I wasn’t impressed with any I had been seeing. None of them really screamed “FORD” to me. I showed Trey my idea and he was skeptical. I then reminded him of how much I spent on my materials and quickly told him I could go buy the $60.00 outfits I had seen. I think he is going to help me complete “the costume”.

Livestock, Funnel Cakes, and Roller Coasters

I am a home body and I will be the first to admit it, however there are some times when you just need to get out of town. I am out of school for two days on fall break this week, and I told Trey that we should go to Jackson for the weekend and see my grandparents. It also doesn’t hurt that Puddin has a house down there we can stay in and feel nice and comfortable while we are away from Mayberry.

We spent part of the day with my grandparents and ate at Brent’s Dugs where some of “The Help” was filmed. After lunch the boys napped and I went shopping. Trey promised Ford we would go to the fair when we he woke up.

I would have been completely fine with a little livestock feeding, funnel cake eating, and lovely humanity watching, but Trey thought we needed to buy tickets and ride some rides. A fair is like a casino for kids. You lose tons of money at those places and get nasty.

How Trey got Ford on the ferris wheel I will never know. I do not ride rides. That funnel cake I thought was a good idea to eat (which it wasn’t) would have been seen again. I waved from the bottom like a good momma would/should.

And then they rode the kiddie roller coaster. It was pretty advanced to be in the kiddie section. I would have been squealing, but Ford was so brave and never made a peep.

On the way home Trey insisted we ride by the Mississippi College School of Law where he attended for 3 years. There were bricks honoring Trey, Pops (John T Lamar, Jr) and Trey’s grandfather, Papa (Leon E Hannaford, Sr).

Today we went to Germantown to play with Aunt Ashley, Molly Cate, Caroline, Jack, Gran and BoomPa.

Painting is always a fun activity… Ford was covered.

The teacher came out in Aunt Ashley and she did an art project with Ford.

And after his “rest” no nap today, I dressed Ford up like Larry!

My wish for tomorrow is that when I wake up it won’t be dark outside. I can’t tell you the last time I woke up when it was light.

My Bid Day

Where were you ten years ago? Ten years ago I was a 19 year old freshman at Ole Miss who had just pledged Tri Delta. This past weekend was Bid Day at Ole Miss and it made me reminisce on my time there as a DDD.

I grew up knowing I would go to Ole Miss since that was how I was raised. My great grandparents went there and so on down to my older brother. When it was time for me to pack up and go to college I was as ready as they come. I remember driving up Interstate 55 in my red 2001 Toyota Solara thinking I couldn’t get there fast enough.

After several weeks rush began and all I wanted to be was a Tri Delt. Well, my wish came true on October 8, 2001. I found these pictures from “my bid day”.

(Excuse my limited skills in scanning pictures). Here we have the famous run… I am running to my now sister in law.

And I can thank all the swaps we had every week for the super GPA I had my freshman year. As I told my dad, “Well at least I met a lot of people.”

Oh those were the “good old days”. College was definitely fun and I am thankful for the experience, but if someone told me I had to go back and wear shower shoes, sleep in a twin bed, share a room with someone other than my husband, walk up the dreaded hill from the dorm, do homework/projects/take tests, and stay up until all hours of the night I think I would cry. I am happy with my little life where I am right now in 2011. My mind can only wonder what God has in store for me in the next ten years!!!

Dude Looks Like a Lady

Well, this is homecoming week at school. That means that every day is a new theme that you must dress up as. Now of course all the teachers do not find the extreme amount of pleasure in these dress up days as I do. My kids enjoy seeing their teacher dress up silly too!! I live for this week. Monday was college day and I wore one of Trey’s Ole Miss Football jerseys. I neglected to get a picture that day. Tuesday was 50’s day for my hall…

And Wednesday was the day I LOVE the most. Well, it was twin day, but Drew (teacher friend) and I call it dress up like Larry Coleman day. Ole Larry decided he would dress up as Mrs. Lamar. I believe he secretly loved all the attention.

And today was Hollywood day. We were all unsure of exactly what that meant so Drew, Mrs. Tiner, and I wore fake eyelashes and red lipstick. I, myself, have never put on fake eyelashes. That adhesive (glue) was some tricky business. I made a huge mess on myself. I won’t be sporting those again anytime soon.

Little Fordster is doing well. He is glad that his daddy is home from the hunting trip. He is learning a lot at school and seems to really be enjoying it. He comes home talking about new people in his class every day.

He will finally sing his ABC’s for me. He used to stop at H and say Y and Z. Now he can get all 26!!

I had to bribe him to take these pictures for me today. I told him I would give him one of the gumballs from his gumball machine. (He has only gotten 1. The potty training isn’t going along too smoothly). He is a little negotiator and told me he needed two… green (his favorite color) and blue. He won!

Happy day to you all!!!!!! And will someone PLEASE tell my husband to take that baby bed in the background down. I need to put my Christmas tree in that spot in 2 months!

Red Carpet Hunting Trip

I am assuming its most men’s dream to go on a red carpet style hunting trip (most other than my dad and brother that is). Well, Trey Lamar got his lifelong wish to go on a man only hunting trip out west.

Trey and 5 other men left last Tuesday morning at 6:00 A.M. headed to Wyoming (flying, not driving) to sleep on tents and hunt elk. Sleeping in a tent would quite honestly be one of my worst nightmares. I am not “prissy”, but my sleep is very important to me along with me bed, pillows, and noise machine.

This picture is their “camp” if you will. The tent on the left is where the chef cooked their meals. Yes, you read that correctly, he had a chef. That would be why I said it was a red carpet style hunting trip. I was left at home to fend for myself and slick had a chef. You all need not worry, I ate very well while my hubby was away!

This is inside the tent. I was under the impression that he was actually sleeping on the ground in his stylish mummy sleeping bag we bought. He had it better than I thought with this cot. On the first night I don’t think he slept too well since a herd of horses came into their camp and made all kinds of noise. I wonder if Trey got scared?

And thank goodness his week-long trip was a success and he killed one of the critters. Who knew they were soooooo big??

His elk weighed about 700 pounds. He killed it around 9:30 in the morning and spent most of the day trying to figure out how to get it off the mountain.

I was so glad to see Trey when he got home. He didn’t come empty handed either. Like any good husband would do, he brought his wife a present. No, I didn’t get a t-shirt, hat, or magnet from his trip. I got none other than some elk TEETH straight from the beasts mouth himself. Nothing says I love you like some bloody ivory teeth!!!!!!

I shudder at the thought of how much the United States Post Office is going to charge to send that elk head back to Mississippi. I may have to work more than my 25 years to pay for that sucker!!!

On Friday Ford got to stay home from his babysitter’s house and play with Miss Taylor, Puddin’s law clerk, who volunteered to spend her weekend hanging out in Mayberry. They had a very successful morning of playing in our tiny backyard with the water hose…

So today, being Saturday, I got up dark (before it was bright) and early to get dressed for the zoo. We skipped cat country.

His attention wasn’t on the camera. He was watching a sheep get his hair cut. It was MUCH more interesting than BoomPa and a camera.

Bad Friend Alert

I would definitely not rate myself very high in the friend department. Honestly, since I have become a mother I think I am a bad friend. I don’t call, text, e-mail, or visit my friends like I should. I want to; I just don’t seem to find the time. The other day I made a point to call one of my very best friends and set up a dinner date. Jessica, whom I call Bogan, (her maiden name was Boggan… yes I meant to put 1 “g”) and I went to eat with our little men at a Mexican restaurant on Tuesday.

Jackson and Ford are exactly 6 weeks to the day apart in age (Ford being older). They seemed to have a lovely time and Ford called him “jacket” the entire ride home. We will eat together more regularly now… we have big plans. The boys didn’t mind eating some candy and discussing important topics like tractors and trains!

We were riding down the road yesterday and Ford told me he needed my sunglasses. He is such a ham!

I took a personal day from school today and have….

Taken Ford to preschool with donut holes for his class… Big hit! I got gas, went to the bank, the post office, picked up some clothes I was having monogrammed for Ford, did 4 loads of laundry, made a cake, and my personal favorite… I got a pedicure!!!!!!! I could get used to being a stay at home mom!

Ohhh but I'm not

Ohhhh how I want to be a fun craftsy mom, but the truth of the matter is… I’M NOT! I found this good recipe for Christmas ornaments on my new favorite website, pinterest, and decided to give it a try.

here's the recipe:
12 small hand prints (change servings and units)
Ingredients
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups water

Directions
1
Combine ingredients and knead dough for 15 to 20 minutes.

Roll dough out and cut around hand or cut circles out for making hand imprints. Use cookie cutters for ornaments or gift tags. If necessary, slightly dampen pieces to make them stick together.

Make a small hole for the hanger and prick to prevent air bubbles.

Bake at 300ºF about 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. You may have to bake considerably longer depending on how thick your items are. They may not feel hard right away but will harden as they cool.

tip: make sure to use a nonstick surface, or spray cookie sheet with pam. if you do get some stickage, cover the back with felt or cardstock. attach with hot glue gun.

Okay so possibly the first mistake is the bowl I was using wasn’t a round cookie cutter and it could have caused some internal damage to my dough??????!!!!!!!!

This is before they were baked. We even used some red food coloring and some cookie cutters to jazz things up a bit.

They are goofy. They didn’t turn out like the ones I found on line. I guess I needed to cook them longer. I just don’t know. Ford and I can fail at an arts and crafts project 9 times out of 10. I guess the good thing is that he had fun.

Killing Bugs

I love to exterminate for bugs. Trey finds it humorous that I enjoy walking around the house with spray with high hopes of killing the little home invaders. The other afternoon when Trey came home from work I heard him ask Ford if he wanted to kill some bugs. They went outside. A few minutes later this is what I saw.

If I knew Trey wouldn’t beat me I would put the picture up of who is standing beside Ford showing him how it’s all done!

Trey found a baby snake outside our door yesterday. I was glad it was a baby, but then he busted my bubble when he told me… “If there is a baby snake there is a momma snake close by”. I have been watching for her real close!

Pops seems to be doing pretty good. His main symptom right now is being tired. I believe all the cards and letters he has been getting is cheering him up. Thanks for all who have called, written letters, visited, or brought food. It makes his day!

Big Lellow Tractor

Today when we pulled in the driveway from school Ford started squealing that the “big lellow (yellow) tractor” was back from the fields. Who knows where the thing went, but I sure told him it was out in the fields planting corn, peas, and beans. Naturally we had to go ride it.

I really am fascinated by the pinterest website I blogged about. Today we decided to make another art project. I think this one turned out better than the tree…

It’s a lobster!

When we were brushing our teeth before bed Ford put on my head band. I love this thing. My friend, Sarah, got married last year and had these in our bride’s maid’s goody bags. I use mine daily.

Ford used to not be a big fan of reading. In the last few weeks he seems to really enjoy it. We read several books before bed each night. These are his favorites right now….

He has memorized most of them. I can start off a page and say about two words and he will finish the page. It’s hilarious. I need to record him doing it so I won’t forget later on.

Goodman trip

On Thursday night I told Trey that tomorrow (being Friday) was one of my favorite days at school. He promptly asked me what I was planning to dress up as that day. Every Friday during football season we have some kind of theme and Friday was “Shock the Chargers”. We were supposed to wear crazy hair. I perfected my doo complete with 8 pony tails on Thursday night as a test run and pulled it off beautifully on Friday.

I was not alone. Others on my hall joined in the fun as well.

Saturday was a BIG day for Ford. It was his first time wearing blue jeans. He is a little over 28 months old right now and those jeans are a size 18 months. He’s a small fella.

After we posed for a picture in our jeans we loaded up in the truck and headed south to Goodman, MS. We have friends who have a hunting “camp” there who invited us to come and play for the weekend. We hauled most of our house for the one night stay as well.

We road tractors, 4-wheelers, and rangers.

Trey decided to go fishing. Ford was not sure about the new adventure at first and needed to step back and examine the situation a bit.

I am sure Trey was giving Ford some speech about how to put the cricket on the fishing pole. Man things… I know nothing about that!

They caught one! Ford even kissed it, but of course I missed the shot!

Looking for bugs

When we got home we had to visit Puddin and Pops. A visit to feed the horses was also in order.

We had a good weekend. I am sad to see it come to an end. I hope that all the Grandparents who read my blog had a HAPPY GRANDPARENT’S DAY today!!!!!!!! We sure love ours around here!
